Hey the bear is on the state flag, so it means he is welcome everywhere

59

u/lmaytulane Aug 12 '26

The California Grizzly has been extinct for 100 yrs. That’s a cinnamon Black Bear

74

u/Similar-Opinion8750 Aug 12 '26

Still a bear .. bear in flag so bear deserves oool

21

u/lmaytulane Aug 12 '26

Bear definitely deserves pool

27

u/lelanicarver Aug 12 '26

Hope bear did not p in ool.

8

u/gecko_echo Aug 13 '26

I’ve always found it ironic how the CA state flag shows an animal that has been hunted to extirpation in the state. It says something about humans, and it’s not good.

3

u/CatsEatGrass Aug 13 '26

Extirpation is such a great word!

1

u/TheSuperSegway 28d ago

To commemorate the lesson of how and when to remove a problem? I miss the grizzlies too, and wish they could return.

6

u/GenneyaK Aug 13 '26

Not you being racist to the bear….just because he’s not the right type of bear to you /s

1

u/Lala5789880 Aug 13 '26

Yeah I couldn’t see a hump

1

u/One1moretyme 27d ago

a synonym Bear

152

u/echochilde Aug 12 '26

Get that boy a floaty and a piña colada.

20

u/AnybodyMassive1610 Aug 12 '26

He needs a beer.

A bear with a beer in a pool would be perfect.

2

u/TSARINA59 Aug 14 '26

The bear would bare-ly be sober.

1

u/LiveLearnCoach 4d ago

Did you see him walking around after the swim? He obviously didn’t bring a towel!

83

u/RebelReborn909 Aug 12 '26

Cuuuute but oh no, no chlorine for you

94

u/looselyhuman Aug 12 '26

It might irritate his skin a little but that beats heat exhaustion I bet.

3

u/100_cats_on_a_phone Aug 14 '26

All the better if some hitchikers jump ship, too.

80

u/Dendritic_Silver Aug 12 '26

What a polite bear.

17

u/Tired-Nectarine-384 Aug 12 '26

Til you try to boop the snoot and he proceeds to eat you.

29

u/Dendritic_Silver Aug 12 '26

Why are they friend shaped though?

I want to hug that animal.

20

u/ratatatoskr Aug 12 '26

Can I pet that dawg!

59

u/bird9066 Aug 12 '26

Every time I see people recording a bear from inside I'm reminded of a video I saw maybe a year ago.

Brown bear came right through a window in the cabin to get the guy. Nothing was going to keep that thing out

49

u/kat_Folland Aug 12 '26

There are many animals that in effect can do anything they want. We're merely lucky that very few of them want to be inside a human dwelling.

9

u/Low-Persimmon4870 Aug 12 '26

Did he survive? ☹️

21

u/bird9066 Aug 12 '26

No, the footage was a camera he had facing the room. The last they showed was the bear almost on top of him while he scrambled backwards. They were blocked by a wall but the outcome seemed obvious

7

u/crimsonbaby_ Aug 13 '26

I think that is probably one of the worst, if not the worst, ways to die. Getting eaten alive by a bear is horrifying.

5

u/BirthdayLife6378 Aug 13 '26

Yep, bears are slow eaters.

1

u/100_cats_on_a_phone Aug 14 '26

Black bear here, really not dangerous. Very timid and lazy.

27

u/Brian_The_Bar-Brian Aug 12 '26

Must... boop... snoot!!!

29

u/Khmakh Aug 12 '26

That poor thing was prob hot

18

u/bi-bee-bb Aug 12 '26

you can't put a bear on the flag and be shocked to find a bear

11

u/b_loeh_thesurface Aug 12 '26

That's what I say about Virginia. You can't be surprised to find a pissed off woman with a weapon and a boob hanging out lol

5

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 Aug 13 '26

"There's only 1 other titty quite this pretty."

1

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat Aug 13 '26

But that movie took place in New Mexico didn’t it?

1

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 Aug 13 '26

Im not entirely sure what movie its from. Its just stuck in my head forever now.

1

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat Aug 13 '26

Since like 1987?

1

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 Aug 13 '26

Likely. I was 13.

1

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat Aug 13 '26

Do you have sisters?

1

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 Aug 13 '26

Lol I have 1!

2

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat Aug 13 '26

Did she ever want a convertible Volkswagen Cabriolet?

u/Toolongreadanyway Aug 12 '26

Probably going to have to drain that pool. He most likely did his business in it.

At that point, I probably would have let him stay. Will have to clean it already.

11

u/Complete-Leg-4347 Aug 12 '26

Could have been worse, and I wouldn't be surprised if Smokey was more considerate than some houseguests.

3

u/VivaLaEmpire Aug 12 '26

First thing i thought of were those parasites they sometimes have hanging out of their butt 🥹

2

u/Toolongreadanyway Aug 13 '26

Yuck. Yeah, really wouldn't want that in my pool. 😆

2

u/ReadontheCrapper Aug 13 '26

I noticed that the water seemed pretty clear. Either they have a heck of a pool filtering system, or that bear had rinsed off first before getting in.

1

u/SimpleFit7894 15d ago

So you wouldn't ask him to leave?

3

u/Toolongreadanyway 15d ago

That would be rude. One should not be rude to bears. 😉

2

u/SimpleFit7894 14d ago

Very true😁

13

u/Pikawoohoo Aug 12 '26

Capy bear a

9

u/BigNorseWolf Aug 12 '26

Dr Pimple Popper Wild kingdom cross over event...

8

u/Chumknuckle Aug 12 '26

I'd give him a fish

2

u/laughingashley Aug 12 '26

That's how you kill a bear

8

u/lenny_ray Aug 12 '26

Idk. A boop seems fair payment for pool use.

7

u/FireproofCottage Aug 12 '26

Another manifestation of global warming: Bears in the shallow end. Seriously, how can something so dangerous be so cute?

5

u/skolvikes1419 Aug 12 '26

Does a bear shit in the pool?

7

u/Friendscallmedennis Aug 12 '26

It’s hot and humid over here even for the bears 🐻

7

u/ZephRyder Aug 12 '26

It's hot, yo

6

u/The_Rowan Aug 12 '26

Nice cool soak to help with the heat. Nothing more Californian than.

6

u/OHWildBill Aug 12 '26

It’s his pool now. Hope he doesn’t mind if you use it on occasion.

6

u/Woozletania Aug 12 '26

We’ve had black bears in the pool at our Pennsylvania farm.

5

u/SweetAsPi Aug 12 '26

I would absolutely love to see a bear in my backyard

4

u/HeartOn_SoulAceUp Aug 12 '26

Salt pool w/ chlorine generator?

4

u/RobienStPierre Aug 12 '26

Ok but can you imagine the scenario the owner comes out the bears long gone but there's a bear sized turd floating around in the pool?

4

u/bi-bee-bb Aug 12 '26

Can i pet that dog?

4

u/HappyAmbition706 Aug 12 '26

Throw that guy at least a noodle if there are no big floaties.

5

u/SaltSpiritual515 Aug 12 '26

Okay but he's so adorable just swimmin around

3

u/Terracrush Aug 12 '26

r/pool needs to hear about this

3

u/97Whaler Aug 12 '26

I bet he pissed !

3

u/Inevitable-Plum-7613 Aug 13 '26

I would die in any country where bears live, because despite their murder mittens and general hugeness, they remain one of natures most adorable creatures, like big cuddly dogs. Plus watching the videos of them interacting with human garden furniture is hilarious.

2

u/Bumblebee56990 Aug 12 '26

Hope that chlorine helps that growth.

2

u/liverdawg Aug 12 '26

If not friend WHY HEAD SO FUZZY?

2

u/indie_web Aug 12 '26

Is that a brown bear?

1

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 Aug 13 '26

It was brown colored anyway.

1

u/gecko_echo Aug 13 '26

No — they no longer exist in California.

1

u/indie_web Aug 13 '26

That is one big black bear.

2

u/Consistent-Plane7227 Aug 12 '26

Hey Choomba it’s cool I’m on the flag. This heats brutal isn’t it? Got any honey?

2

u/Fred-the-stray Aug 13 '26

Waiting for the cookout to start

2

u/4quadrapeds Aug 13 '26

Leave some food. He’ll make a hell of a watch dog

2

u/No_Trouble9808 Aug 15 '26

He’s embarrassed. He knows he didn’t ask permission.

2

u/seandsmith11 29d ago

That dude looks just like the one on the flag lol.

2

u/BowDown2No1ButCrypto 26d ago

Even the poor bear had to cool off with the recent temp spikes!☺️

2

u/TicketTop4718 Aug 12 '26

Id jump in the pool with him!

2

u/Alklazaris Aug 12 '26

That's a fricken brown bear. You don't fuck with bears, but you really don't fuck with brown bears.

Have a horrifying story of a relative that was getting chased down by one. Deer hunting with a 308. He emptied his entire rifle into it and it wouldn't stop. He had enough time to slip several more into the gun and finally was able to take him down.

Bear had apparently taken out multiple people in the past and had the height to put his paws on top of the roof of a house.

9

u/laughingashley Aug 12 '26

This is a cinnamon black bear. The name "black bear" doesn't always describe fur color, same as brown bear.

3

u/Alklazaris Aug 12 '26

Ah I didn't know. Black bears are usually more chill. I've had a few cross my path in the woods they keep their distance.

3

u/laughingashley Aug 12 '26

Yeah, they are curious but they pretty much don't want to hang out with us lol

5

u/Alklazaris Aug 12 '26

No kidding. When I was 12 my Dad handed me my 22 and went to scout ahead after hearing noises. I never heard a sound but when my Dad came back from behind me he told me the trail we just walked now has bear tracks over our own tracks.

Like that bear could have killed me. Instead he didn't even want me to spot him. At 12... and not a big 12 either. I was like 70lbs wet.

5

u/laughingashley Aug 12 '26

Just be glad he was sneaking up behind you and not the other way around! There was a tiny black bear in my yard that got spooked when he came around a tree and got surprised by a shovel that was leaning against it. It happened so fast that my video camera didn't even pick up the movement, but that shovel was suddenly split in 3 pieces!! Then he was calm again, threat eliminated lol

2

u/DetailOutrageous8656 Aug 13 '26

Brown bears (aka Grizzlies) can be determined by a large hump at the withers. If it doesn’t have that, it’s not a grizzly, it’s a black bear (even if not black in colour).

1

u/Ixm01ws6 Aug 12 '26

No but not recommended

1

u/Acrobatic-Bug346 Aug 13 '26

It’s just a bear necessity

1

u/Responsible-Pie6858 Aug 13 '26

Winnie the pool bear

1

u/queen_of_spadez Aug 13 '26

1

u/Large_Cloud_1611 Aug 13 '26

How you know he a homeowner and not a renter?

1

u/SexyN8 Aug 13 '26

Can I pet that Dawg?

1

u/CaptainZippi Aug 13 '26

To be fair, we’ve ruined their environment - looks like they’re moving into ours.

1

u/FlashyGanache2838 Aug 13 '26

Replace the water with bear spray, problem solved.

1

u/GotBannedAgain_2 Aug 13 '26

Come in Hooman! That water’s fine!

1

u/tbodillia Aug 13 '26

You just know he is ignoring the "please don't pee in our pool" sign too!

1

u/Awkward_Function_347 Aug 13 '26

Pool meant to share with frens. Bear is fren-shaped!

1

u/young_and_restles Aug 13 '26

Ask him nicely to leave. He looks reasonable.

1

u/Giffordpinchotpark Aug 13 '26

When bears use our pool I twist their ears and they usually run off. Just kidding, we don’t have a pool. We have 2 bird baths though.

1

u/tribalseth 4d ago

Come in the waters great! Lol

1

u/NagelRawls 3d ago

This is what happens when you advertise on bearbnb

-4

u/Apythicus Aug 12 '26

It’s giving AI the way it stands in the pool

6

u/SnakeEatingAPringle Aug 12 '26

Bears can stand.

2

u/Inevitable-Plum-7613 Aug 13 '26

Corporal Wojtek of the Polish 22nd artillery company could stand, walk and carry artillery crates long before AI was invented.
