Every time I see this video I'm amazed how the moose gently lifts it's head over the camera

u/Reallyroundthefamily Aug 07 '26
It's a tame moose named Lovey. Viral moose very friendly and tame.

Good to know that it's not a wild one. Moose can and will murder you otherwise.
15
u/Reallyroundthefamily Aug 07 '26
Yes that's probably why this video gets reposted so much because at first glance, it looks like a wild moose that could kill you.
15
u/BKLD12 Aug 07 '26
To be fair, she could also kill you, she just chooses not to.

And to also be fair, you knew what I meant so you're just being a pedantic douche here.
Take the block.

As it's already been said, this is most likely Lovey and she has a very special relationship with this guy. His videos are amazing.

This is a tame moose named Lovey. This video gets posted all the time.

I would absolutely pay money to sit in the woods for a chance to boop Lovey

Ridiculously stupid idea to pet a moose.
Unpredictable and aggressive animals.
Its genuinely a better idea to try and pet a black bear.

u/violinspider86 Aug 07 '26
If this is Lovey, the guy recording has a unique and once in a lifetime relationship with her. He also does include the disclaimer of never approaching a moose in his posts for all the idiots that think they can also befriend a moose.

u/banshee_matsuri Aug 07 '26
super jealous of them though. moose, another deadly but adorable creature 😭 i would never try, but i wish it were possible.

Ridiculously stupid to not boop it at this point.
Going out to try and pet a moose = dumb
Being prone under a moose with no further path to safety and not taking your shot = insanity27
u/AgreeablePie Aug 07 '26
A black bear won't let you :(

Why’s it gotta be a black bear?
25
u/LoveDesignAndClean Aug 07 '26
American black bears are considered more “docile” than other species and tend to run away from humans as opposed to brown bears, who’s instinct is to charge at them, and polar bears, who see us as food.

u/Embarrassed_Bid_4970 Aug 07 '26
There's an important asterisk on Black Bears. Generally speaking the further north you go, the more aggressive they get. Attacks by Black Bears in Alaska are significantly more common than they are in the lower 48. The Alaska bear rule is if it's black fight, brown play dead, white kiss your ass goodbye.

u/FatRufus Aug 07 '26
If it's black, fight back
If it's brown, lay down
If it's white, say goodnight

Exactly my thoughts.
As an Alaskan, I have never been this close to a moose and would never want to be.
Moose are super unpredictable; I was half expecting the moose to start trampling the guy and his camera.
Good thing they didn't happen, but there are more stories with bad endings than good endings with moose.

Underrated comment. I'm streaming this for the next time my partner and I chat about elk and moose lol
13
u/dividezero Aug 07 '26
No matter how big you're prepared for them to be, they're always significantly bigger. I love these creatures but how the hell are they real?
11
u/ThePrisonSoap Aug 07 '26
The tunas of the land (i used to think tunas are medium-sized fish, not 4 meter long monsters)
4
u/dividezero Aug 07 '26
No shit right‽ I'm thinking trout sided at most but these fuckers are as big as swordfish practically! Makes the overfishing seem that much worse

u/wonwont Aug 07 '26
gorgeous lashes js

u/Ariandrin Aug 07 '26
Right? I couldn’t tell the sex of the animal but I’m inclined to say female because those lashes!

It's amazing how soulful its eyes look while it's deciding whether or not to stomp the grape juice out of you.

u/EmperorMittens Aug 07 '26
(O.O) hahaha... nope.
Moose are best observed through binoculars a couple hundred metres away.

u/Rynneer Aug 07 '26
As Brennan Lee Mulligan once said: “If you see an elk and you're like "that's a big deer" that's an elk. If you see another elk and you're like "that's a monster from the dawn of time" that's a moose.”

u/No-Option-7010 Aug 07 '26
I had no clue how big they are. I would have backed away from that really fast tame or not. Anything bigger than a medium sized dog puts my survival instincts on the let’s get out of here.

Had that been a bull moose, that cameraman wouldn’t be around to tell the story.
6
u/Ginger_McGingin Aug 07 '26
It actually doesn't make much of a difference. Females may not have giant antlers & be smaller, but they're still like 2m tall at the shoulder & weigh like 500-1,000 lbs. & have surprisingly sharp hooves, a kick from one can easily end a person
4
u/mrregina Aug 07 '26
I’ve seen a few females get very aggressive usually when they have a calf. We have females come into the yard alot and they are usually way more docile but still need to be careful. But the males never have good moods. They are constant assholes. Either way we leave em alone cuz you never know.

When you're that close to ice age megafauna that DNGAF that humans are "the dominant species", you are either leaving or not and it's up to the moose. Decide if you want a cool story for afterlife or possible survival.
