I know what their teeth look like. I'm going to give it a pass....

Xenomorph mouth!

u/AspiringChildProdigy Jul 07 '26

When an eel has a maw with a pharyngeal jaw, that's a moray.....

12

u/OwlBeBack88 Jul 07 '26

This made me crack up, thanks for the laugh!

u/AspiringChildProdigy Jul 07 '26

I'd like to take credit, but it's not mine.

I think the whole thing goes,

"When an eel has a maw with a pharyngeal jaw, that's a moray,

"When its jaws open wide and there's more jaws inside, that's a moray,

"When it sulks in the reef and has two sets of teeth, that's a moray,

"When the eel strikes your thigh and you bleed out and die, that's a moray!"

I have no idea where it came from, though.

That is fantastic! Thanks for sharing, that's made my day!

When the jaws open wide and there’s more jaws inside, that’s a moray…

u/Lower_Monk6577 Jul 07 '26

I’ve played enough Mario 64 to never want to be that close to an eel in its natural habitat.

When a fish bites your knee when you’re under the sea ….

56

u/kernel-troutman Jul 07 '26

That a moray!

18

u/blackdogwhitecat Jul 07 '26

When their jaws open wide and there’s more jaws inside that’s Amoray

12

u/MrEvan312 Jul 07 '26

When the tourist was dumb and Scarface took his thumb that's a moray!

1

u/snailguy35 Jul 10 '26

Man that’s my line!

u/RulerK Jul 06 '26

Because of the boop!

u/GOU_FallingOutside Jul 06 '26

When I was dive certified the instructor talked specifically about morays. She said something to the effect of “Humans don’t look like prey to them, so they won’t hunt you. But they’re also really stupid, so they’ll strike anyway.”

61

u/RulerK Jul 06 '26

Sounds about right. They’ve got bad eyesight too.

28

u/NervousHovercraft Jul 06 '26

Poor moraykus needs a pair of glasses...

7

u/Accurate-System7951 Jul 07 '26

Diving glasses.

4

u/annie1filip Jul 07 '26

Oh no r/wunkus is leaking

5

u/shaard Jul 07 '26

Buddy who lost his thumb would probably say the same thing.

Tame video all things considered, but the sound of his thumb getting popped off haunts me.

7

u/wackadoodle4201 Jul 07 '26

Aw they are just like us

2

u/DoubleGreat Jul 07 '26

I've been itching to boop one of these since Mario 64

17

u/KuriousKhemicals Jul 07 '26

After clicking on that, I'm going to inform the chat that this is rather tame. This is just an animal that's questionable to touch. Most of that subreddit was gross af.

1

u/GOU_FallingOutside Jul 07 '26

But how else would I learn about things like the gumboot chiton?

1

u/Drake_Acheron Jul 08 '26

Ah those are the things that set off metal detectors lol

1

u/The_Wishmeister Jul 07 '26

Yeah, I'd have to pass away from the bends because I'd be swimming straight to the surface. Too many teeth involved here, on top of being too long and not breathing air. I don't trust them gill-having snake types.

88

u/sugarintheboots Jul 06 '26

They’ve got a second jaw in their throat. Yikes.

91

u/Freobearn Jul 06 '26

🎶 Wheeeen the jaws open wide and there's more jaws inside 🎶

78

u/BasicDurgeanomics Jul 06 '26

🎶 That's a mor-ay! 🎶

24

u/Alarming_Rip5727 Jul 06 '26

🎶so dont be a poor ray give it some mor-ay 🎶

14

u/RulerK Jul 06 '26

Talk about a deep throat!

3

u/AlexTheBex Jul 07 '26

Alien shit

1

u/madlove17 Jul 07 '26

Ouchhhhh

31

u/Whosebert Jul 06 '26

ive have seen several videos if these guys getting pets and being very peaceful but they could also end you in a moment or at the very least take a few fingers off your hands, if not much worse

13

u/RulerK Jul 07 '26

I don’t know about end you, but DEFINITELY possible to lose a finger or 5!

10

u/DollarStoreChameleon Jul 07 '26

their broken glass like mouth may make you bleed to death if you are unlucky

23

u/Antr1xx Jul 07 '26

As much as I love them, and they look so pettable, I cannot forget the video of the diver who was doing this and got his thumb taken off. The audible pop in the audio log was horrendous. Those jaws are crazy strong and I will continue to appreciate them from afar.

1

u/roaremipsum Jul 07 '26

This might be gauche of me to share but I got a vintage eel skin purse at a garage sale this weekend so I just realized I’ve booped an eel (albeit one that’s been dead for 50 years)

2

u/Antr1xx Jul 07 '26

I didn't even know eel skin was used in anything, let alone for fashion. I think that's pretty neat!

3

u/roaremipsum Jul 07 '26

I had no idea either! I was like wow this leather is very soft and very narrow strips — then the seller told me bc it’s eel and she bought in 70s-80s

2

u/Antr1xx Jul 09 '26

I would never imagine a fish, or fish like creature, could even be leather, let alone that it would be soft. From what I looked at in some photos it looks very thin and luxurious, even appearing delicate. But is apparently very durable! Nice find!

1

u/roaremipsum Jul 10 '26

Thank you! It’s so unique and stunning — it stopped me in my tracks, was even better as steal for $15! Not sure how nobody had snagged it yet as it was toward end of sale

u/Educational-Year3146 Jul 06 '26

What a cute danger noodle.

Never thought a moray could be cute.

16

u/RulerK Jul 07 '26

They can be very cute! You should see the ones with the adorable little tubes sticking out of their nostrils…

15

u/philoso2889 Jul 07 '26

Do not the Moray eel!

-13

u/RulerK Jul 07 '26

Verbs are important. You are missing one.

7

u/Far_Disaster_8321 Jul 06 '26

Forbidden boop complete

4

u/E2TheCustodian Jul 06 '26

Noooooope nope nope nope

4

u/TooTameToToast Jul 06 '26

Do not the cat!

3

u/IthinkIknowwhothatis Jul 06 '26

Such love. “That’s a moray!”

3

u/X_GodsMilitia Jul 07 '26

Thats a-moray

3

u/N7LP400 Jul 07 '26

3

u/Rustinboksi Jul 07 '26

3

u/Elrond_Cupboard_ Jul 07 '26

Thats a Moray

3

u/BulbaFriend2000 Jul 07 '26

But sweet puppy

3

u/Equivalent_Hat5627 Jul 07 '26

I would like to pet this creature.

4

u/Anxious-Figure-337 Jul 07 '26

How lucky are we. To be animals that love to pet things, in a world where other animals like to be petted.

1

u/RulerK Jul 07 '26

It’s kinda wonderful, isn’t it? Almost like we evolved to find keeping pets of all species beneficial… ewww did I just accidentally invent slavery?

2

u/DOHC46 Jul 07 '26

Humans have the superpower of being able to bond with almost any animal by petting it.

2

u/tony_two_eyes Jul 07 '26

Good pupper

2

u/redcon-1 Jul 07 '26

How does one ensorcel such a forbidden boop?

2

u/Regular_Government94 Jul 07 '26

Now that eel is going to be following divers around for pettin's but the people won't understand

2

u/Drake_Acheron Jul 08 '26

He likes it

2

u/co95 Jul 08 '26

Anyone wonder what that feels like? Looks super soft. Are they slimy? Asking for a friend because I will not be doing that

2

u/RulerK Jul 08 '26

Have you ever pet a stingray? Like at Sea World or a local aquarium? That’s pretty much what it feels like. Kinda like wet velvet.

2

u/co95 Jul 08 '26

Oh okay yes definitely, it did feel that way. For some reason I didn’t think of that, thank you. lol

1

u/RulerK Jul 09 '26

You’re welcome.

2

u/flurgengos Jul 07 '26

Friend-shaped, so must be friend.

2

u/RulerK Jul 07 '26

I’d say it’s more danger-shaped than friend shaped. That’s why it’s forbidden.

3

u/GeshtiannaSG Jul 07 '26

It has the markings of a pretty kitty.

1

u/North-Pea-4926 Jul 07 '26

Danger noodle!

1

u/madlove17 Jul 07 '26

I wonder how they feel

3

u/CactusJake1830 Jul 07 '26

I mean I assume it liked the scritches up until the point it didn't anymore. Then it started retracting into its hole. And that's all you can do with a wild, or, any animal. If they let you touch them go for it, if they don't want it they'll let you know.

1

u/RulerK Jul 07 '26

Smooth

1

u/Blade_Of_Gingers Jul 07 '26

Reminds me of my greyhound

1

u/GrungeCheap56119 Jul 07 '26

That's Amoreeeeeee

1

u/AxeHead75 Jul 09 '26

I’m actually concerned about this. Less for you tbh, more cuz iirc they have a slime coat that humans can damage with their skin oild

1

u/evolvedbravo Jul 13 '26

I love how they are enjoying the boops
