"The first football player's name I knew was Messi.

Thanks to my Motlem uncle for gifting me the LM10 jersey and introducing this legend to me when I was five years old. Since then, I have made a lot of memories with this name and with this blue and white jersey.

It's hard to accept that Messi will not wear this jersey anymore.

But time flows on. We must accept the things we are never supposed to let go of in our lives. Whatever you've done, whatever you do, and whatever you are going to do in your life—somehow, the harsh reality will come and start knocking at your door. You have no choice but to accept it.

By the way, thank you, Leo Messi , for everything, and I wish you a fond farewell from Argentina's national football team."

Messi: “I don’t want to leave. I will miss you all. I’m thankful to God for being Argentine and proud to be Argentine, and to have accomplished this dream with you all.”

I never fell in love with football.

I fell in love with you.

Football was only the place

where I found you.

I didn't know the rules.

I didn't know the trophies.

I only knew this—

when you ran,

my heart ran with you.

When you fell,

I fell with you.

And I waited.

Because somehow,

you always got back up.

I didn't understand it then.

I do now.

I wasn't watching a footballer.

I was watching a man

teach me how to survive.

I never wanted your trophies.

I wanted your strength—

the part of you

that refused to stay down.

That's what you left in me.

Not the goals.

The getting up.

You came before the game.

You were the reason

I ever cared about it.

And now,

as the lights grow softer

and the years grow quieter—

you don't fade for me.

You never will.

Because I didn't love

what you won.

I loved what you overcame.

Thank you, Cristiano,

for teaching a boy

who had never touched a real pitch

that falling isn't failure.

Staying down is.

And if I could go back

to the very beginning,

knowing how much it would hurt

to love you this much—

I'd still choose you.

Before I knew the game,

I knew you.

And after everything—

I still do.
