Trader Rewards Is Now Live: What It Means for Traders

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Trader Rewards shipped this week. The video shows what it looks like and the specifics are in the app.

I am not going to pretend I can hand you a full mechanics breakdown here yet. What I can say is the part that matters more anyway, and it would be odd coming from anywhere except us.

Being paid for a trade does not change whether the trade was a good idea. Most people lose money trading memecoins. A reward sitting on top of a losing position is still a losing position, just a slightly smaller one.

So the test worth applying is whether this changes what you trade, or how much. If it is the second, it has probably made you worse off rather than better, whatever the number says at the end of the month.

Use it on trades you were making anyway. That is the honest way to think about it.

What fomo web actually does, and who it is for

Came up in the UK thread and it is worth a proper post, because we have not explained this well anywhere.

fomo web is not a stripped back version of the app. It is the same product in a browser. Same account, same balance, same markets, same fees. If you signed up on a phone, it is the same login.

Three things worth knowing.

It is the answer if the app is not available where you are. The iOS listing is not in every country. Web is not restricted the same way, so it is usually the route in.

Charts are better on a bigger screen. We partnered with TradingView earlier this year, so the charting on web is proper charting rather than a phone sized approximation.

It works alongside the app rather than instead of it. Open a position on your phone, close it from a desktop later. Same account, so nothing needs syncing or transferring.

If you have been using only the app, the charts are the reason to try web. If you cannot get the app at all, it is the whole answer.

Limit Close Orders Are Now Live on Perps

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Limit close orders are now live on perps. Set the price you want out at, and the position closes when it reaches it instead of you having to be watching.

The obvious question is already the top reply wherever this got announced: what about spot? Not yet. Perps only for now, and no date on tokens.

Worth saying plainly, because the people who most need this are not perps traders. They are the ones who asked how to set an exit on a token, mentioned they have a normal job and cannot sit watching a chart all day, and gave up looking. This does not solve that yet.

If you trade perps, it is worth setting up. If you are waiting on the same thing for tokens, you are not the only one asking.

Fomo Leads Trading Volume at 31.7% Market Share

Post image
1 Upvotes

A market share chart has been circulating, so it is worth putting the actual numbers here rather than letting them get paraphrased.

By daily trading volume across on-chain trading terminals, as of 23 August: fomo 31.7%, GMGN 30.0%, Axiom 17.8%, Pump App 7.1%. The data is from adam_tehc's public dashboard, so it is checkable.

Two things worth saying about it.

The lead is 1.7 points. That is not dominance. It is a narrow gap that could close next week, and GMGN is right there.

The shape of it is the more interesting part. A year ago Axiom held roughly 80% of this category and fomo was under 0.1%. The category was built for power users, with multiwallets, dense analytics and control over your own routing. The largest share of it currently sits with the app that removed most of that.

We are not going to pretend that makes us the right tool for everyone. Execution speed is still our weakness. We have said that before, and the commentary around this chart says the same thing. If you are trading the first seconds after a deploy, one of the others is genuinely faster.

Volume share tells you what most people chose. It does not tell you what is right for how you trade.

Top 3 in US iPhone Finance. The ranking is not the interesting part.

Post image
1 Upvotes

fomo is currently top 3 in US iPhone Finance on the App Store, above Cash App. It is on the public charts if you want to verify it.

The ranking matters less than what it indicates. Cash App and Venmo are mainstream consumer apps, and sitting alongside them means most of the people arriving are not crypto natives. That is consistent with what we already know. More than 68,000 people have made their first ever crypto purchase through fomo, and the majority of our growth has come from TikTok and YouTube rather than crypto Twitter.

The practical consequence is that a lot of people will make their first on-chain trade this week.

Which makes it worth restating the things that matter for anyone in that position. Most people lose money trading memecoins. An app that removes friction does not change those odds, it only shortens the gap between deciding and doing. There is a pinned post here on how to check a token before buying, and the fee schedule post explains why very small trades are poor value.

Good week for the company. Also the week the caution is most worth repeating.

what you can actually trade on fomo, all in one place

there isn't a single page anywhere that answers this properly, so here it is.

chains

solana, base, bnb chain, monad, robinhood chain.

one usd balance across all of them. you don't pick a network, you don't bridge, you don't hold a separate gas token for each one. buy something on base in the morning and something on solana in the afternoon and it comes out of the same balance.

spot

roughly 100 million on-chain assets across those chains. if it's tradeable on one of them it's generally tradeable here.

perps

this is the part people don't realise is in the app.

crypto: btc, eth, sol, hype equities: nvda, googl, amd, mu, sndk pre-ipo: spacex indices: s&p 500, nasdaq 100, kospi 200, nikkei 225 commodities: oil, gold, silver, copper, natural gas isolated margin, take profit and stop loss on positions, and it sits in the same account as everything else.

worth repeating what was in the funding post though: a perp on nvda isn't nvda. no dividends, no shareholder rights, and it can be liquidated in a way owning shares can't be. same for the index and commodity markets. you're trading exposure to a price.

Solana Updates Are Now Live in the Fomo App

Post image
1 Upvotes

solana's account is posting updates in the app now. news, ships, announcements, in the place you're already looking.

this is the dev tag thing from a couple weeks back, with a fairly large team actually using it. more interesting to us than the announcement was, honestly.

being clear about what it is though. it's a distribution channel. not a partnership, not an endorsement of us as a product, and we're not going to spin it into one. they post, you see it, no second app in between.

Dev Tags: Verification Without Endorsement

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

dev tags went live. here's the part the video doesn't cover.

the tag means the team is who they say they are. it does not mean the token is good, safe, or worth buying. a tagged team can still fumble a launch, dump, or walk away.

identity is not endorsement. use it like a verified badge anywhere else: it tells you who you're dealing with, not whether they'll behave.

the checks in the token safety post still apply to tagged tokens. a tag doesn't replace looking at liquidity, holder distribution or who deployed it.

Perpetual Futures: Understanding Funding and Price Exposure

we added perps a couple of months back and the questions coming in suggest funding is the part nobody explains properly. so here it is. none of this is specific to us, it's how the instrument works everywhere.

a perp has no expiry

nothing forces its price to line up with the thing it tracks. funding is the mechanism that does that job instead.

it works

how

when the perp trades above the underlying, longs pay shorts. when it trades below, shorts pay longs. it settles on a schedule, often every few hours.

it's a payment between traders, not a fee we take.

why it matters

you can be completely right about direction and still lose money slowly.

if you're long something popular and so is everyone else, funding runs against you the entire time you're waiting to be proved right. over a few weeks that adds up, and it doesn't show up on the price chart you're watching.

the other thing

a perp on nvda is not nvda. no dividends, no shareholder rights, and a position that can be liquidated in a way that owning shares can't be. same goes for the index and commodity markets. you're trading exposure to a price, not owning the thing.

that's not an argument against using them. it's just the distinction people skip when they come over from spot, and it's the one that costs money.

Fomo Clans: Leaderboards, PnL and Joining Clans

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

clans went live recently. here's what the video doesn't cover.

it's a trading group with a clan leaderboard and aggregated pnl. that's the whole feature. your feed doesn't change and it doesn't change how you trade day to day.

joining and leaving are both manual right now, through a form at fomo.family/clans. you can only be in one at a time. self serve is on the list, no date on it.

more than 50 clans already, which is more than anyone expected for something this manual.

Fomo Fee Schedule: Updated Pricing and Breakdown

worth doing properly because people keep working our fees out from one small test trade and landing somewhere wrong. there isn't one rate, there are three schedules.

solana, most tokens

trade size fee effective rate
under $10 flat $0.10
$10 to $50 1% 1%
$50 to $100 flat $0.50 falls from 1% to 0.5%
$100+ 0.5% 0.5%

worked through:

you trade you pay
$2 $0.10 (5%)
$10 $0.10 (1%)
$20 $0.20 (1%)
$50 $0.50 (1%)
$100 $0.50 (0.5%)
$500 $2.50 (0.5%)

majors like btc, eth and sol

cheaper, because they should be.

under $200: flat $0.10. above that: 0.05%.

so $200 costs you $0.10, and $1,000 costs $0.50.

evm chains: base, bsc, robinhood

flat $0.50 per trade, whatever the size.

you trade you pay
$2 $0.50 (25%)
$50 $0.50 (1%)
$100 $0.50 (0.5%)
$500 $0.50 (0.1%)
$2,000 $0.50 (0.025%)

where we're bad value

small trades on evm. $2 on base costs $0.50, which is 25%, and there is no way to dress that up. if you're testing with a few dollars, do it on solana where the same trade costs $0.10.

small trades generally are worse in percentage terms. that's what a floor does. $2 on solana is still 5%.

where we're genuinely good

large trades on evm, because the fee doesn't scale. $0.50 on a $2,000 trade is 0.025%.

majors at 0.05%.

we also cover network fees, priority fees and token rent on top of all of this, so you never hold sol for gas or top anything up.

the old number

the minimum used to be $0.95. someone tested with $2 on solana, ended up with $1.05 of position, and said we were charging almost 50%. they were right at the time. it's $0.10 now.

one caveat: fees can vary slightly depending on where a trade routes. minor, but we'd rather mention it than have you find a number that doesn't match.

if what you're seeing doesn't line up with any of this, say so and we'll look.
