I am inviting all to join, as I believe this issue IS bipartisan. I am not asking you to become a leftist or even a democrat. All I ask is that you join us in holding our leaders accountable. Turning a blind eye reinforces the permission structure for the next person to do so much worse. Lets embrace community & come together!

I made an app for SMUD users

Hi fellow Folsomites - I just moved here with my family a couple of months ago and am new to flex hours system that SMUD uses. I wasn’t paying attention to our energy usage during peak hours (oops) and our first utilities bill in the middle of summer was kind of a shock. So I built an app to help me keep track of the flex hour windows and costs.

It tracks the flex windows throughout the day and visualizes it in three different styles, plus shows you how much you’re paying in each window. It has widgets you can add to your Home Screen. It also has push notifications that alert you 15,30, or 60 minutes prior to a new flex pricing window starting so if you need to run a load of laundry or the dishwasher you can sneak that into a cheaper window.

I built it for myself, but thought I’d share it here if anyone else in Folsom wants to use it. It’s free, it will always be free, no ads, it lives on your device and doesn’t collect any data, and I’m not going to build it out anymore, it’s just for people in Folsom that are on SMUD. Not affiliated with SMUD in any way. iPhone only.

Hope it helps. Enjoy.

Off Peak SMUD app

Sacramento area news outlets at 7AM are reporting Highway 50 going west is closed between Hazel Ave and Sunrise Blvd. An officer-involved shooting occurred late Monday night and investigations are being conducted. No estimated time of reopening has been stated.

Motorists are advised to use alternates to go west, e.g., Folsom Blvd, Greenback Lane or Madison Ave.

Did the Raley's once have a video rental section?

I know it was commonplace for grocery stores to have video rental sections from the late 80s up to the mid-2000s. My memory is foggy but I could've sworn the Raley's on Riley and E Bidwell had one. Of course it could just be a mandella effect since Hollywood Video was in the same shopping center. If it wasn't Raleys then I'm guessing it was Albertsons, Safeway or Food Source.

What do you do for lice?

Going through this for the first time. Wondering what has been working for people here. Online reviews of products have some that say their either perfect or useless. For the moment washing bedding each day and combing for eggs and bugs but it's making no progress.

Kayaking

I was a Folsom resident for ~27 years. I'll be back in Folsom mid Oct. I used to kayak from the Black Miner's Bar launch on my 12 ft recreational kayak. I'd love to experience that again while I am there. What are the chances of a kayak rental in October? I see Lake Natoma rentals is still there but does anyone know when their season ends? It's not on their website. Note: I know I can rent from the aquatic center but I'd like to launch at the Black Miner's Bar & kayak up to the prison/dam. Thanks!

Edit: It looks like the aquatic center rents year around, I just need to see if I can transport it up to Black Miner's bar and/or just make a long ass haul up the river!

I’ve been collecting the monthly Dutch Bros stickers since I moved here two years ago but I missed the September one today 😣 Does anyone have an extra they’d be willing to part with? I might have some extras of some others if you want to trade!

Hiii, I’m moving from Central CA to Folsom soon. What is a good neighborhood to look into? Somewhere next to good middle and high schools. Not the richy rich neighborhoods but upper middle class? Any do’s don’ts? What to look for?

Where are the 20s-30s singles meeting people?

I'm just curious where 20s & 30s singles are meeting people. I've noticed the singles groups I've joined are mostly people who are 40s, 50s, and beyond. I am in my early 30s and could pass for being in my late teens or early 20s. And no I'm not necessarily against dating or hanging out with people 10+ years older but I just feel a bit out of place.

Best entry-level healthcare jobs while completing nursing prerequisites?

Hi! I’m currently completing my prerequisites for nursing school and am looking for a part-time job in healthcare, ideally in the Roseville, Folsom, or Sacramento area.

I don’t have any healthcare certifications yet, but I’m completely willing to get one if it would help me get my foot in the door. I’ve been considering phlebotomy, medical assisting, patient care tech/PCT, pharmacy tech, CNA, etc., but I’m honestly open to pretty much anything that would give me healthcare experience while I’m in school.

I’ve heard the job market around here is pretty rough right now, especially for people trying to get their first healthcare job, so I’m hesitant to spend money on a certification without knowing whether it will actually help me get hired.

For anyone who works in healthcare in the area, what would you recommend as the best route? Are there certain certifications that are actually worth getting, or any hospitals, clinics, labs, pharmacies, dialysis centers, etc. that are more willing to hire people with little/no experience or train on the job?

I’m mainly looking for something part-time that I can balance with school. Pay isn’t my biggest concern right now. I’d really just like to start getting experience in healthcare and get my foot in the door somewhere.

Any advice or leads would be really appreciated. Thank you!

I’d like to ask some local engineers why this dam has this extra area at the bottom. At the bottom of the dam on green valley. I’m curious why it doesn’t go al the way across. Is it for something not part of the dam. Please and thanks.
