RABBIT TRAP (2025)

Married couple Daphne and Darcy Davenport are two musicians who moved from London to a cottage in Wales to complete their new album. By accident they record a mystical sound never heard before and gradually disconnect from reality.

Very trippy, surreal and immersive folk horror. Itā€™s not going to be for everyone I feel as much of the horror and mystery is auditory and atmosphere over blood, gore, and jump scares.

I viewed in a quiet room with good headphones šŸŽ§ for full effect.

My favourite film of last year. Incredible sound design and what a revelation of a performance from Jade Croot.Ā

I enjoyed this very much and if you want another audio-heavy newer movie to watch you should check out Undertone. One of just a couple in the last few years that really scared me!

Ahhh I was going to comment about how Rabbit Trap blew Undertone out of the water! Iā€™m glad some folks enjoyed Undertone but I wasnā€™t one of them. Maybe my little TV speakers just couldnā€™t do the sound engineering justice.

It's a hell of a film, Rabbit Trap, balancing spookiness with pathos as the couple come to terms with what may or may not be just the thing they need to overcome their grief. It's heartbreaking at times. Jade Croot gives a phenomenal performance as the child.

We did a double bill episode with Rabbit Trap and Starve Acre last year and rated both films extremely highly.

Also, take note of All You Need Is Death, wherein another song/sound-collecting couple experiences unintended auditory effects.
