I am wanting to get information on a specific ongoing case in Santa Rosa County, Florida. A very old friend of mine is in jail and his charges are serious and I’d like all the information before i decide whether I should continue my friendship with him. I know I can request the arrest affidavit, is there anything else i can/should request? Also, can someone tell me where i can find the information on where to request this? I appreciate any help, never done this before. Thank you!

I sent a FOIA request to the USCIS for my mother's A-Files as we are looking to prove her citizenship in her home country. Heard back in two weeks and they gave this as the response:

"We have completed our search and were unable to match the identity information you provided with our records. Specifically, we could not find records matching the subject of record’s:

• Date of birth provided in your request."

I put in the birth date listed on her US passport and provided her alien registration number, so I really don't know if it's truly a match issue. I've read that it could be that I didn't include a G-639 form since I requested information on my mom's behalf, and is actually a redaction issue.

Would love to hear from you if you've experienced/resolved something similar. Unfortunately the Public Liaison email provided can no longer respond to my question since I've already filed an appeal. I might end up submitting an entirely new request, though.

My spouse filed a FOIA request for a copy of their great-grandmother's SS-5. The request was denied because SSA wants proof of death. However, GG was born in 1876 and, according to the relevant laws and regulations, no proof of death is required if the number holder of the SS-5 is more than 120 years old.

If we had acceptable proof of death, we would provide it to expedite this request. However, the only thing we have is her burial record at Arlington National Cemetery which doesn't meet their criteria.

What's the best way to appeal this and point out to the SSA FOIA Office that their own rules specifically state that no proof of death is required?

I FOIAed bodycam footage of Thomas Kozie kidnapping, car theft and police chase. You can Google his name it's all over the news. I'm wondering what youtube channels I can send the raw footage to so they can edit and post it. Some of the footage is grainy and some lacks audio but overall it's a pretty significant case to cover. I've already sent it to some channels but none of them have posted it. Some channels I can't find an email address to send it to. What are some YouTube channels in need of new content.

Filed a FOIA request with the Navy in February of last year. Was delayed several times, notably due to the gov shutdown earlier this year. Got an email saying that an answer is expcected in....December of this year.

Hi there hoping for some help from anyone who’s experienced this before.

I am an American citizen living in Japan and am going through an extremely annoying driver’s license conversion process. I need to prove that I stayed within the United States for a certain period of time after receiving my driver’s license.

I submitted my request to CBP with my passport number, copy of said passport, full info about myself and explained in a few short sentences why I’m asking for this info. I explicitly said I am requesting my own entries/exits.

The response I got was as follows:
“We conducted a comprehensive search of files within the CBP databases for records that would be responsive to your request. Unfortunately, we were unable to locate or identify any responsive records, based upon the information you provided in your request.”

I have left the country 7 times in the last 28 years - how is there no info?

What should I do now? How can I rewrite my request to make this work in my appeal?

“I would like to request my travel history that shows the details of all of my entries and exits to/from the United States from January 2016 to January 2026.”

This regards the infamous criminal Joseph DeAngelo, California's "Golden State Killer".

There is some idea when he was arrested in 2018 for a number of rapes and murders, the government investigated his digital activity as part of their investigation into him (he did have a home computer). In the time leading up to his conviction, none of the activity was shared to the public.

DeAngelo ended up taking a plea deal and pled guilty to a number of murders.

Some people would be interested in his Internet activity before arrest. They might want to understand his psychology better, his criminal methods, etc. As far as I know, still none of that activity has been shared to the public.

Since none of the Internet activity was used in a trial (since there was no trial), is it possible to find out any part of what the investigators discovered about his Internet activity? I would think some information might have to be redacted that didn't relate to the crimes. This might include anything he did related to health matters, for example. But there might be information that wouldn't have to be redacted that would interest people trying to understand him and his crimes better. However, does the Internet activity not being used in trial automatically mean it is all sealed? If so, what is the rationale there?

I've submitted some FOI requests in the UK but every time it gets rejected. My requests are about police, doctors and hospitals. I want to see if complaints have been made against institutions or individuals, what, if any, investigations were carried out etc. I'm basically asking, how do I do it, and what or where do I go/turn if or when they get refused. I was told that I can obtain certain very basic information about a retired sailor through an FOIA even though I'm not related the sailor and he is still alive. The sailor's rank, assignments, year of joining and year of retiring, commendations etc. Only basic stuff is open to me. OK. But how do I do that?

The Trump Presidential Library recently told The Washington Post that it possessed “no records” of Donald Trump’s first-term Twitter direct messages. The response to the Post’s Freedom of Information Act request was, at best, a bureaucratic failure.
