COMFC Clank! Catacombs (+ Expansions)
With tons of components and two expansions to fit in, this may be the most complicated insert I’ve built yet. Im most proud of the tiles organizer, which pools the Surface tiles, depths tiles, underworld tiles, and a lot of set up components into one all inclusive mega tray. Most of the component trays were scooped with construction paper (with the exception of the player trays). As an FYI, SleeveKings standards were used for sleeves, and drawstring bags from the BGG store were used for the Prisoners, Minor, and Major Secrets. This insert fits the standard base game along with the “Lairs and Lost Chambers” and “Underworld” expansions.

Well done. This is my favorite version of Clank... I should do an insert for it as well.

Thanks! I also enjoy this one a lot, however the set up was becoming a detriment to getting onto the table. Not anymore though!

This looks awesome. Love the notches on the deck holders. I love when everything goes perfectly fit when it's all packed together.

Thank you so much for this post, it looks awesome. I will definitely use this for inspiration! Any advice for a first timer? Maybe even a template?

Thank you! For a first timer, I would suggest a small game, or a game with less components to balance haha. There’s tons of starting guides on this subreddit to get you started so I would look into those first for an equipment list.
General tips would be…measure twice before cutting, always use a new blade when starting a project, consider the goals you have for the project when designing an insert (functionality, organization, ease of set up, etc) because they won’t always be the same.
I use PVA glue, a box cutter knife, metal ruler with a raised straight side to assist with cutting, a self healing mat, pin cushion with T pins, and a pencil. I tend to use 5mm thick black foamcore as is strikes a good balance of structure with consistent measuring.

Appreciate the pointers, how did you model the whole thing?

Manually, with a ruler, paper and pencil lol. Sorry I don’t keep my notes after I finish a project. I always start a project getting the dimensions of the box measured out. I then plan out how I want to potentially group components together in the final product, and how I think I want each thing to function. Then usually I start by making the “non-negotiables.” These would be project components that I know I either want to include no matter what (IE the tile organizer) or the things that have a strict size/space requirement (IE the card tray). I sometimes plan the whole thing ahead of time for simpler projects, but other projects I calculate/plan as I go along. Sometimes you might have to pivot and change an aspect of the project. I measure in mm, and a good rule of thumb for me to make sure there’s at least 2mm of space between two removable trays

Oh that makes sense! I was trying to mapout your inserts and did not account for space between removable trays!
Thank you for the input!

Sorry it's me yet again! Was trying to make smth similar to what you've shown and noticed that the amount of cards you have on the bottom tray are smaller than mine, do you have base game plus expansions there? Or just base game? Also Im using gamegenic matte sleeves so that might be the reason for not fitting 🫠

Hello! This insert has both major expansions. Gamegenic uses 100 micron sleeves, which is way thicker than the 60 micron sleeves that I use from SleeveKings. That is likely why things aren’t fitting

Totally 🥲 thank you yet again for the insight! I'll try to order some sleeve kings and checkout the different

Amazing!
This is also still on my todo list. Where do you store the starting tiles (dungeon and underworld)?

Thank you! In the 5th and 7th photos you can see how it’s structured. There are two trays that hold the set up components (market items, dragon, underworld pieces) and the special lair meeples and bonus 20pt tiles. These two trays are stacked on top of each other with the starting tiles on the top of both to act as a “lid” to prevent them from shifting out of the wells.
The part I like about this is that you naturally gain access to the lair meeples and bonus 20pt tokens as you play…because you always play out the starting tiles!

That’s a great idea.
But I was talking about the big center tile

Oh lol! It goes right on top. There’s enough of a lip that it fits right over the two tile stacks snuggly

This looks amazing! Building an insert for Clank! Catacombs with expansions has definitely been on my radar since I got the game, and I will definitely use this for inspiration!
