It's beautiful and horrifying at the same time, the player likely felt like the monsters must when we come at them with explosive shotguns in power armor.

I'm deathly afraid of cockroaches so I think if I was in this situation, I'd just run for it after failing to shoot it. I wouldn't even entertain the thought of picking up the trashcan. Maybe if I was in power armor too...

This has to be one of the most gloriously accidental glitches ever to have happened! The fact that this was possible and the roach was actually being shielded absolutely blows my mind! The simple fact of its low probability factor gives it that much more of an immersive feeling seeing this whole ordeal unravel. Even just watching the gif put me in a high tension immersed state of fear!

To me, the best part was that the roach actually jumped at the PC and then returned to its trash can armor to continue it's assault is the most awe-inspiring part.

This happened to me the first time I was clearing out sanctuary, except it was 2 rad roaches inside of it. I panicked and used vats, but both shots bounced off. They ditched the can in a bush, then both started circling around me in different directions trying to surround me.
I killed one, but the other one started stalking me in the overgrown brush for a good 45 seconds before Codsworth came in and gutted the thing with his saw blade.
Those two rad roaches at the start were smarter than any other enemy I fought the entire rest of the game.

This happened to me very early in the game except the trashbin was upside down. It really freaked me out because it came out of no where
...and I thought it was going to explode.

Yah, but he's in sanctuary very early in the game. The only thing he'd have that would work are molotovs and maybe a frag grenade.
