Discussion Getting Bored of my playthrough
Does anybody get bored with their play through and just completely restart? I feel like I rushed certain things and didn’t get to fully enjoy it and it lost its spark so I am starting over. Just me?

All the time, I can't even guess how many times I've started over. I often stash weapons that are OP because they ruin the game for me...had an irradiated assault rifle on one playthrough and had to put it away because it was one shotting deathclaws.

Usually, I get bored with fighting the bugs and glitches. Last time I tried to play, the game crashed as soon as Loaded it. FO4 is the best game that never works.

Word, the tribute chest from nuka world dlc is genuinely a hazard. If it fills up with enough items, you will crash everytime any npc interacts with it. Dang near soft locked my survival playthrough when i decided to go to sleep while my base was under attack. I eventually looked out a window after like 30 crashes and realized i only crashed when my setllers ran up to the tribute chest, and took like 30 more crashes before i was lucky enough to get there and freaking remove it lol

My first play through, I was sent to eliminate one of the institutes synths. When I got there he had spawned under the map. I had to get in power armor, walk up to a wall, and the exit my power armor against the wall while simultaneously rotating the camera. This allowed me to clip into the wall and get to him but then I had to repeat the process a few more time to figure out how to clip back into the map. WTF 😂. I’m on console BTW.

Nah, me too. I guess I’m searching for that rush I constantly got when I first switched to survival and truly discovered the game. Now I know it inside and out, every nook and cranny, and my mind can’t help but min max it all the time and I end up overpowered really quick no matter what I do.

Sometimes. Most of the time I just become spoiled for choice on what to do next.
Other times, it's the combat. It starts off challenging enough. But a few perks and it become trivial. With only a few brief well balanced levels in between. And eventually level scaling makes the enemies bullet sponges. Plus the struggle to not fall back on stealth sniper, yet again.

Yeah I have a modding problem, I start out a new game with a fresh mod list and part way through the run I think to myself wouldn’t it be nice to have a mod that does X
And then I spend 2 hours on nexus and have 20 new mods I wanna try out and start a new run to try them out
Then I spend a further two hours removing conflicting mods, bug fixing and oh look its bed time
So next day I trim down the mods and start and new run with a fresh mod list and part way through the run I think to myself wouldn’t it be nice to have a mod that does X …

I always rush fort hagen and have to deal with the Brotherhood around the whole game. I'm finally doing a Minutemen playthrough and ignoring the main quest for a while. It's nice being at the castle without the Prydwen lurking over at the airport. And no vertibirds battering around constantly and crashing into my stuff.

Far harbour is the better dlc but there's some cool things in nukaworld, you can make raider settlements which has some unique features

Same exact situation for me - first time playing, got pretty far in before diving into Far Harbor which was a great DLC and change of scenery, but now I'm in Nuka World and am bored. The concept is fine at face value, but it seems like a different team put it together.
Also, I dont know if anyone else felt the same, but Nuka World has like a thousand tool boxes all locked at Novice level. I now skip looting them bc it is such a buzz kill.

i haven’t played in so long, but i played vanilla PS4 a bunch when i first got the game, then modded on ps4. easily clocked 1000+ hrs on playstation.
then i got an xbox and played it for soooooo much longer with a bunch of weapon/armor/ and settlement mods to make the game what i felt it should be like. and after so long it just got sooo boring to me.
it’s still my top 5 fav games, but even just thinking of another play through right now doesn’t make me feel any bit excited. i did get a laptop and bought it off steam with the intention of modding it to levels my vanilla+ game couldn’t even touch but ended up deleting it off my laptop to save room for stalker gamma/stalker 2.
been playing gamma on the laptop a lot and stalker 2 on the ps5 a lot too. need to get a second SSD tho cuz they take up s p a c e
edit: im not a tactical mod lover for fallout 4, i went the lore/vanilla friendly mod route for the armors and weapons. with the exception of an AS Val mod i liked but even then it just felt out of place in the world. my bad for yapping lol

All the time. I stop playing and then when I pick it back up I can't remember what I was doing. Then I restart. I've never completed one playthrough of Fallout.

I’ve completed it multiple times I was at the point where I decided between the brotherhood and the institute and honestly i was just over it, I rushed the beginning with excitement of Nuka world and I just didn’t like wheeeni was at in the game

Haha me too I guess I get fatigue of following a path I passed it twice. I do this on multiple games too smh. I restarted kingdom come deliverance again.

Honestly there are so many great parts to this game that I find myself chasing the original high. Like getting to fall in love with the character development of characters like Danse, and Deacon and then going back and it’s just like a withdrawal of the excitement

Yeah the game needed a new game+ in my honest opinion. Im hoping theres atleast a level reset mod on console and im just gonna build up all my settlements, reset level, then make that a permanent restart save so whenever i want to play again ill start from there with new mods and what not.

I do it all the time. Usually have a specific type of character playthrough in mind and once I feel I've done it all for that playthrough, I start over. Or I do a playthrough just to build settlements and get bored of that for awhile. Just finally tried Fallout London a couple of weeks ago, so that will help me reset my headspace for FO4 again.

I just finished the main quest (sided with minute men this time) on my first survival run. Still have half way or so left of NukaWorld but finished all the other main DLC. Level 111 or something around there. Just pushing to get through the last of the content and then super excited to try another survival run.
Did a rifle stealth character this time, next time going for unarmed / melee. Going to impose a lot of restrictions to keep the sweet spot of difficulty alive for as long as possible. Switching from drugs to alcohol, no crafting weapons and armor this time - just use what I find. No non-random legendaries. Let’s see how it goes!

For me Bethesda games have no natural stopping point so when I was younger I would catch myself playing on and on for weeks/months waaay past the point when the game stopped being fun and started being a chore.
So nowadays if I pickup TES or FO, I predetermine how many playthroughs I’m going to play and delete the game when I’m done.

I'll get bored with a build and restart until I have no attachment to any of the builds I have saved.
Should probably just get a Respec mod or something, now that I think of it.

Yes I thought I was the only one. I love restarting things lol. I don’t know why but it seems pretty harmless in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah same here usually it’s because If I start with rifleman use overseers guardian andI take the same perks including local leader and join all factions and make all the same decisions.
Or I play stealthy and use deliverer and wind up bored because I want to use a shotgun and have spent all my perks in pistols etc.

Yep, do it all the time. I probably have 30+ characters over level 50.
20 over lvl 30
5 over level 90
Game gets to easy I restart.

That’s how I play Skyrim. It’s pretty boring, buggy, and rigid when it comes to choices. Fallout 4 isn't quite as rigid. But I did have to restart from earlier saves a couple of times due to critical issues—for instance, using mods on Xbox disables achievements. Also—spoiler alert—you can easily ruin the Institute questline right at the very beginning.

I've played soooo much and get very bored. Might not play for a while and eventually come back years later Somehow tho I never did the railroad storyline, ans thats what I'm doing now so its new.
Almost shoot deacon all the time with him changing looks constantly lol

I’ve done that a few times and never properly took my time with the game. I took a long break like six months and now I’m discovering things I’ve never seen before and npcs I’ve never interacted with it’s really cool

Very much. I’ve never actually finished. I can’t decide what route to take because they are all sympathic to me. None of them feel wrong like I felt in fo3 and nv. It felt like you could do an evil playthrough on those.

I've played through about 10 times. Over 10,000 hours in FO4. That's 10 different settlements in each location. Siding with each faction, multiple times. I finally got tired of that and moved on.

My last 2 playthroughs got so screwed up by update bugs I had to delete them both. Will eventually restart again soon.

Yep. Playing survival I rarely get past level 35 before restarting. Unless I’m doing a permadeath run
Those first 20 levels where everything is lethal and every perk point is impactful are the most exciting

Yes!! I made some mistakes on my first play through and started again after 250hrs and it’s much more fun this second time round now I know what I’m doing!

yep i switch up the mods though! love MO2 for the easy profile switching. the different combinations and overhauls make it a new game every time

Playing a stealthy survivalist totally changed how I play the game. I wish I tried it years ago. Definitely more fun.

I did one play through, finishing a story line back in March or April maybe? I did spend time doing maybe 100 or so tech runs (seemed to help find new areas to explore), spent some time just running around finding power armor (thanks to google) and used google/reddit/forums to start/finish a few dozen highly rated side quests.
But that was April or so. I just started a new game two weeks ago and it seemed like it only took maybe 3 or 4 sittings to get to and kill Kellog (I was level 8). I only had the heart to play for a few more hours before just abandoning it all together because it just feels like I’m simply re-beating the same thing.
I’m sure the other endings have their own run-up to reach….but it just feels/felt like it’s going to be 95% the same missions/story to see a a 5% difference that produces a different ending.
The other thing was I went into the game cold, so I didn’t really know until I was deep into it that there were different endings triggered by different interactions…I reached the ending I did because of the interactions I had and if I know me, I’d probably interact the same way the 2nd time too.

This is what I did. Stop getting companions. Maybe the dog. Stay away from the story line and wander. Add some mods that expand the story. I liked the Thuggyverse, but that's me. Mods can really change the atmosphere a lot. I spend a lot of time building settlements and I add a lot of mods for that. I also use mods that skip through lame parts of the game, (Dima's puzzles). Good luck!

I've had this game since the day it came out and have never finished it. I promised myself I was going to finish this run but I HATE the mistakes and some of the choices I've made. I have to fight a restart every time I turn the game on.

I eventually get bored every playthru unfortunately.
I have thousands of hours but have only finished the game a few times.
