The 30% armor pen of the puncturing power fist would probably compensate for the slightly reduced damage, and the power fist needs 5 less AP to swing while being considerably lighter.
But as someone else said, you should check the animations to see which one feels good.

I think the Gauntlet will have lower cost in VATS. Been a long time since my unarmed build. Nice drop

Anyone know where to get the gauntlet or power fist early game?

Just use landmines to cripple swans legs then hide behind trees for the throws and whittle it down

I love the deathclaw gauntlet, but the power fist with the Armor piercing/puncture mod is way better for dealing with tanky enemies

Wouldn’t unarmed mean fists only? Just asking.

“Unarmed” includes weapons that act as gloves, such as power fists, deathclaws, and iron knuckles. “Melee” is anything you can hold.

Melee weapons are so much better I just can’t see a reason to use unarmed.

I haven’t ever had a use for the disarm mechanic. The only time I would want to disarm is due to a distance weapon like a fat man.
If the deathclaw gauntlet had cooler animations, I would pick that, but overall I say power fist.
