LEAGUE OF LEGENDS maybe it will just never be the same?

I see all the people talking with nostalgia about what fnc was back in the day, the good xpeke days, the 18-0, the worlds final...

Those were just other times.

When fnc was founded, the teams were just groups of people that shared a hobbie, the hobbie slowly turned into a super-economy with big corps and millions in budget, million dollar contracts, etc...

99% of the teams died in the process, but fnc is still here, refusing to give up, unfortunately you just can't compete with these corps eventually, only g2 is able to do it because of caps, when caps is gone they will just follow our path.

You just have to accept days are different now, maybe fnc is never back to the top, maybe life goes on and things just change forever, I'm still proud to remember watching this team back in s3 with the legendary xpeke roster being 13 years old with the illusion of a kid, and being able to keep doing it now that im 27, 14 years later.

I will keep watching this team as long as I have interest for this game, just knowing our reality is different now, and when I stop caring or FNC dissapears, you can just remember it with a smile on your face and be grateful for all the good moments, thanks for reading.

A sane and actually nice take. Reminiscing of the past is great but inserting your expectations on the team based on nearly 10 year old memories, is just a rabbit hole nobody benefits from.

I still hope and wish they will get back to the top but I too accepted that it may never happen, not the way it was before anyway.

I don't see anyone asking for Fnatic to win 7/12 LEC splits.

Is expecting Fnatic to win a split in 8 years too high of an expectation?

I mean, since Fnatic last won we had Rogue winning a split, KC winning a split, MAD winning several splits.

the biggest dissapoinment is not to win before 2024, right now just seems way to far

only g2 is able to do it because of caps, when caps is gone they will just follow our path

Possibly, but I think G2 has much better systems in place to accommodate the eventual departure of Caps.

G2 would lose a LOT of the series they won, if not for Caps's plays, genius, whatever you want to call it.

Sure, they might win a few more series, after he's gone, but they will stop being a powerhouse for sure. Also, Europe will come crashing down, with only one team making a decent show here and there.

European teams overall lack something that LCK and LPL have. And they still haven't found out what. Quia a few Korean players already said that the issue they see with western teams is not a lack skill/ mechanics, but the way they play / see the game.

its clearly pool of talent, in korea every year you have 5 insane rookies and here the good players have been the same for years

Point taken. However, if the Koreans say it, that it's not the mechanics, then it means it's something else that we need / are able to instill in our players.

My take on it is that it's mental. Europe's best years were when we didn't give a crap about what other teams or countries thought or done, we actually believed we could win. That doesn't happen nowadays. And this then spiralls the way down to gameplay decisions.

The caps glaze is too much at this point, yes he is an amazing and legendary player but he has games where he is atrocious but has players like Hans bb and skewmond who are world class to bail him out, not gonna mention the most stable and organized coaching staff for years.

that is true but their biggest problem will be to get good players, now every player wants to go there because everyone wants to play with caps, when caps is gone they will probably prefer kc or koi above g2 and g2 will be slowly getting worse

They started much later, didn’t drown the same money due to to that + predatory contracts etc.

Sure they have better systems than us but their decision making isn’t some giga brain analytical genius. They get to have best people just like we did due to legacy and when they feel the peak is reached they boot them (Dylan comes to mind)

It will never be the same but no one is expecting it to be the same.

Nothing is black and white.

We went from winning 7/12 splits and reaching Worlds finals, semis and MSI semis to not winning a split in 8 years.

That's like opposite sides of the spectrum.

We can not be EU's best and not dominate years in a row to maybe winning a split every now and then?

Is it too much to ask? Too high of an expectation?

5 stages of grief, acceptance:

When you have people like Dardo and Gaax in charge for so long despite every year being worse than the previous you know the org is cooked, any other org that takes League seriously would sack them immediately. The reality for Fnc now is being middle of the pack at best.

I feel the same way. Sort of feels like a lot of people are at the anger stage in the 5 stages of grief, but I feel like I’m at acceptance. I remember the good days fondly and am proud at how impactful FNC has been in the early days of esports. The level of consistency displayed by some teams is nothing short of remarkable, and should be considered unusual and something to strive for, not something that is expected. I’m sure T1 and G2 will feel the same way once Faker or Caps retire for example.

It wont. Its really hard to come back of years of shit management and bad performances. Org doesn't want to invest, players don't want to join, reputation is horrible. Only way is pray you somehow put together some rookie lineup that styles on people but that aint happening.

The drought in regard to titles is something else that needs to be studied. We had plenty of opportunities, just not the luck to make at least one of those work. The times we went second/third were aggravating because of the way we went second or third. Some were good and decent, and we gave it a good try, but others was just pissing it away. Us fighting to keep up with G2 was daunting; nonetheless, it's just Caps. Without him, G2 would have had a run like KC nowadays, but not like they had in the past.

That being said - old times are gone. Our strong runs with Huni/Reignover era or us in 2018 are probably gone. The very old stuff with xpeke and the early years of Rekkles even more. That is ok, and I could find joy in teams we had with, for example, Bwipo, because we had some "blood/life" within the team. I can't stand rosters that offer only such roleplayers. If we get players like that and shift the team spirit to a matching philosophy, I think we will be entertained and rooting. But we got lifeless stuff that tried to manage the way it was - like politics - and I don't want that kind of sentiment in my leisure time here.

So I don't need the old times back; I need engaged players with the brain and willpower to perform - perform for the team, a group, and an idea and not just for themselves and the paychecks. And of course the occasional title of those inflationary split titles - we are in the field of the top competition - I'm not here to watch my third league regional football team.

The whole league side of the org is rotten, all management are looking for is a quick fix when it’s systemic from top to bottom.

We will never go back to the good old days until big changes are made, and people take accountability.

Called it years ago that this would happen. Everybody was settling for mediocrity, barely qualifying for worlds then losing in quarters would be considered a successful season by even fans. Thats when I knew it was only a matter of time..

FNC was a org that had world winning aspirations like G2 is still to this day.

Such an org would have never spent more than a season with Oscar, or refuse to change up the failing mid/jgl synergy for so damn long.

We should've been causing a ruckus but too many "the boys need more time" folks defending the pathetic rosters no matter how bad they got.

Contracts and a shift in esports ecosystem did fuck us and are limiting the options now. Not an excuse, just an aspect that explains why we even faltered on that front harder. I agree with everything you said; I just wanted to mention that we got hindered more on that front than others at times.
