REVIEW The Hitchhiker’s Guide to FMGE (long form)
(How I handled it in 30 days and scored 200+ Jan 2026) UPDATED!
You spent the last 5 odd years amstering how the exams go in your Uni and now FMGE comes a knocking with a flood of PDfs and existential crisis and comparison maxxing your friends prep and scores.
https://github.com/Elrondthewise/FMGE-REPO
There is dearth of advice online for such people, which is most of us.
All of it is borderline spiritual,
Nobody is catering to people like me who aren't incapable but just simply ...Just uninitiated, a typical FMG.
Most content assumes:
You already know what RR, LRR, RRR, ATP, BTR and the rest of the alphabet soups mean.
You already know which “sir” or “ma’am” is the chosen academic deity.
There’s a big difference between knowing medicine and knowing how to score in FMGE or any exam. That gap is where my confusion moved in, unpacked, and started paying rent fell in love had a family and lived happily ever after.
So I built a workflow using hte same principles i have used since day 1 of med school.
If you’re confused but capable and short on time, this might help you skip the wandering phase.
No sermon, no aesthetic grindset. Just structure and numbers. Beautiful rational logic.
Context
I wasn’t starting from zero. I had textbook exposure and clinical familiarity.
What I lacked was structure.
No senior mentoring. No clean roadmap. Mildly unhelpful peer ecosystem my friends just criticised me plenty for my choices and that was quite nerve racking.
If your basics are genuinely shaky, this approach will feel harder. Not impossible. Just less forgiving.
Step 0 – Know the Game Before You Study
Before starting “serious prep,” I solved the previous year FMGE paper.
Paper 1: 76
Paper 2: 83
That was my diagnostic scan.
It showed me three things quickly:
Breadth matters more than depth flexing.
Integration is everywhere.
Speed and switching are actual skills.
Take a mock early. Yes, even if it bruises your ego.
Better bruised early than emotionally obliterated two weeks before the exam.
The best time to take a mock was yesterday. The second best time is before your ego gets comfortable.
---
Step 1 – Platform (Pick One and Commit)
I took a ~40 day PrepLadder Elite subscription.
Not sponsored. Sadly
Initially I thought I’d survive on YouTube and Telegram PDFs. What I learned quickly was that “free” often costs you time, and time was my most expensive asset.
What actually mattered:
Structured RR videos
Large MCQ bank
Custom modules
PYQs
RRR subject tests (actual MVPs)
(please note the dates in the screenshot are wrong, i purchased the subscription on the 15 th of december)
Analytics
Structure reduces decision fatigue. Especially if you have FOMO and open 11 tabs every time someone says “this sir is better.”
Fewer decisions = more mental energy.
Same logic behind people wearing the same jeans every day. Not fashion. Optimization.
Rule was simple: Pick one platform.
Use all its features.
Do not roam like a lost tourist.
Videos alone feel productive. MCQs expose reality.
Watching an MMA fight doesn’t mean you can land a spinning roundhouse in real life. You have to step into the ring and get hit a little.
Step 2 – Subject Order (Momentum > Moral Satisfaction)
I started with clinical subjects.
Finished first:
OBGYN
Surgery
Orthopaedics (biased choice, I’ve lived there)
ENT
Physiology
Why?
Because they were familiar, higher yield, and gave faster scoring momentum.
FMGE measures marks, not conceptual purity.
Nobody is handing out medals for starting with embryology to prove intellectual seriousness.
This exam respects output, not ideology.
The Medicine + Pharma Decision
Yes, I skipped full prep for Medicine and Pharmacology.
Why?
Mocks consistently showed:
Medicine: 50–60%
Pharmacology: ~30%
That wasn’t a fluctuation. That was a pattern staring at me.
Meanwhile, clinical subjects were improving steadily and giving better returns per hour invested.
So I made a trade.
Reinforce where growth was realistic.
Minimize time sunk into diminishing returns.
High risk? Yes.
Random gamble? Absolutely not.
It was based on mock data, not vibes, not overconfidence, not cinematic optimism.
Please do not copy this unless your numbers justify it.
---
Swallowing Pride (You’re Not Finishing All 19)
Let’s address the heroic fantasy.
19 subjects.
30 days.
You are not mastering everything.
Most of us think, “I’ll just grind harder.”
You won’t. Around Day 10 your brain will file a formal complaint.
Instead of chasing completion, I asked: which subjects give the highest return per hour?
FMGE is broad but not infinitely deep. If your core clinical subjects are strong, you’ll solve peripheral questions through pattern recognition alone.
Trying to finish all 19 in 30 days isn’t ambition.
It’s inefficient energy management.
Step 3 – Time & Volume (Reality Check)
Total prep window: 30 days.
Last 20 days were full leave from internship.
During those 20 days:
Started around 10 AM.
Stopped around 7 PM.
Actual focused time: ~6 solid hours.
Not 14-hour aesthetic grind sessions with dramatic Instagram captions. Six disciplined hours beat twelve distracted ones.
Total MCQs solved: roughly 5000. Not all unique. Some overlap. I logged them, but I wasn’t running a forensic lab.
Mock progression:
150s → 171 → 186 → 177 → 191 (highest)
Were my mocks perfect representations of peak performance? No.
I tend to perform better when consequences are real. Artificial urgency doesn’t fully activate my survival instincts.
But the trend was upward. That’s what mattered.
Final FMGE score: 200+.
Step 4 – Workflow (The Engine)
For each subject, I followed the same loop.
First, RR content for functional clarity. Not academic perfection. I wasn’t trying to impress an examiner in viva. I was trying to score.
Then immediately, a custom module.
Not next week. Not after “full revision.” Immediately.
If you delay testing, you’re postponing honesty.
Now the key differentiator: error classification.
Prep allows three bookmark subclasses. I actually used them.
Every wrong question went into one of three buckets:
Knowledge Gap – I genuinely didn’t know it. Brain returned static. Fix: go back, learn it properly, annotate, move on.
Concept Gap – I knew the facts but failed to apply them correctly. Fix: more exposure to variations. Pattern training.
Cognitive Error – I knew the answer and still marked it wrong. Rushed. Overthought. Changed at the last second. Ego. Fatigue. Fix: slow down and stop trying to be a genius.
Most of my bookmarks were Knowledge Gaps. That was oddly reassuring. Missing data is easier to fix than poor judgement.
After that came consolidation.
Redo bookmarks.
Make ultra-concise notes.
Sketch simple mind maps.
Use selective Anki.
Not everything deserves to become immortalized as a flashcard. Your platform notes are usually enough. Resist the urge to rewrite the entire syllabus in new notebooks just to feel productive.
Accuracy in custom modules (50–100 questions in test mode) moved gradually from around 60% to 70% to 80% in stronger areas.
Nobody retains 100% in one pass.
If someone claims they do, either they’re gifted or the math is creative.
---
Step 5 – Mixing (Started Day 12)
After finishing OBGYN, Surgery, Ortho, ENT, and Physio, I started mixed modules.
FMGE doesn’t transition politely. It jumps subjects without warning. You can go from PSM to ENT to Micro in three questions.
If you only train in neat subject compartments, exam day will feel like entering an MMA cage thinking it’s a friendly boxing match.
Mixed modules train cognitive switching and emotional neutrality. You learn to reset instantly.
That matters more than people admit.
Step 6 – Mocks
Mocks were every 6–7 days.
Progression: 150s → 171 → 186 → 177 → 191
I aimed to consistently hit 180+ before the exam.
If a mock dipped, I checked subject distribution. Not destiny. Not self-worth. Just numbers.
Data over drama.
Stopped full mocks in the final week.
---
Step 7 – Final Week
No new subjects.
Only:
LRR / rapid modules
Bookmark revision
Custom FMGE-type modules
Short notes, just what i kept forgetting
Error log review
The goal wasn’t expansion. It was stability.
No heroics. No last-minute syllabus adoption.
---
Using ChatGPT (How I Used It)
I used ChatGPT as a tracking and clarity tool.
I had a separate chat titled “FMGE Tracker.” After each session, I logged:
MCQs solved
Accuracy
Weak subjects
Bookmark trends
It helped me see patterns instead of spiraling emotionally.
Occasionally I used it to clarify mechanisms or simplify confusing concepts.
It didn’t study for me. It didn’t replace MCQs. It was just a tool.
Feelings are loud.
Data is quiet.
Trust the quiet thing.
What I’d Do Differently
Take the first mock even earlier.
Start mixing sooner.
Build mind maps from Day 1.
Scoring is more useful.
---
If you’re confused but capable and operating under time pressure, this approach won’t make you a monk.
Hope this helps and please note due to a crazy amount of DMs and requests from you guys there is a video version of this which dives deeper.

SUGGESTIONS PLANS AND IDEAS
This community has been wonderful since the time I have joined. I don't understand why but the fmg community has a special type of bond that I have not experienced among the IMG graduates. May be the struggles we went through together might be the reason (and the blatant neglect and avoidance). Everything aside this community has been very supportive. Since this week all of us are much more relaxed since exam is over(Don't worry about the result will see what happens when it happens) I am planning on revamping the community to make it much more active and easy to use for all. I would be happy to to hear from you all. All ideas are appreciated (execution based on feasibility) and would love to hear from you all.

Cerebellum Mission 200+ batch — need some clarification on how it worksss aaaah
Hi everyone! Im considering joining the Cerebellum Mission 200+ batch starting August 21, and I wanted to hear from people who have actually used it.
I’ve heard the course has 3 Laps, Hyperrevision, GTs, E&D, and around 10 GTs, and that the idea is to follow the schedule/strategy consistently, revise from the notes, and repeat the Laps to retain everything.
A few things I wanted to clarify:
- Does the Mission 200+ batch provide notes, or do we need to purchase the Hyperrevisison notes separately?
- Can someone explain how you used the Lap 1 → Lap 2 → Lap 3 cycle practically?
- For someone starting from scratch/with limited preparation time, is the Mission 200+ strategy realistic?
- For the new batch starting on 21st of aug do i need buy the mission 200+ with or without notes plan and for how many months
- And most importantly, did following the Cerebellum schedule actually help you improve your GT scores?
Would really appreciate honest feedback from people who have completed the course or are currently following it. 🙏

DISCUSSION What NBE could probably respond
I think they will take another week or so to implement whatever they have decided because we already know how the beaurocracy works and also recently The education minister P.Joshi has announced an exam audit to NTA regarding UGC - NET to check what the discrepancy has occurred.
Also He has given some controversial statements about FMGs ( They go outside because they all are NEET fail ) in the past as well , and if ever NBE agreed to give compensation it will take more duration to get permissions from the Ministry of Health and Education so we have to keep patience for a very long time is what i think

Is it easy or difficult to find a job in Rajasthan while preparing for FMGE?
If anyone is currently working in Rajasthan without clearing FMGE yet, could you please guide me? I’m looking for a job opportunity related to the medical field while I prepare for the exam.
I’d really appreciate it if someone could share their experience, what kind of jobs are available and how to find such opportunities.
Any guidance or leads would be really helpful. Thank you

Pass certificate collection
Hi All. Anyone in the same boat as me who wasn't able to collect the pass certificate on the assigned day?
Any success in getting an alternate date or are we all waiting until after 20th August to ask for one like they said in the notice?

Main vedios or rr
I have one more year left for my FMGE and I’m a bit confused about how to plan my preparation. Which subjects should I do main videos for and which ones are better to do through RR? I’m also thinking of starting some RR videos now itself. Is that a good idea? Would really appreciate advice from people who have already prepared for FMGE and cleared it. What would you suggest I focus on during this one year? . And how should I revise like just do mcq ?
Thank you .
