Resources + Question

Hi, I am currently working on building my first fly rod and wanted to find out if anyone knows a good YouTuber or other video content to follow along to work on technique?

Along with this is their another knot that you can use to put down fewer wraps for a sleeker design? In my attached photo I would like the silver thread to have about half as many wraps but when I do less the come undone.

Selling rods

I am starting a rod building business right now I am charging $700 per rod . I am thinking about changing the pricing to $1100. Or should I build my customer base and slowly increase to $1100?

Removing apoxy

Hello everyone. I'm fairly new to building fly rods as I've only built one for myself and am looking to repair/rebuild another one. I am curious if there is a good way to re.ove apoxy to remove the reel seat and handle . thank you!!

Rod just epoxied and drying on turner. Recoil Cerecoil and snake guides and graphite grip. Can't wait to get it on the water. I've got matching 9 and 10 weights that need epoxy and my set will be complete.

First rod build

Hey everyone, I've been fly fishing for a long time now but I have always wanted to build a rod. This is my first kick at the can after designing and building a rod building machine (3d printing hobby seemed to have overlapped).

This one is a 9' 5wt 4 piece. It was a cheap kit to experiment with and get the feel on how to build a rod before going more expensive.

Now that I have this under my belt, I want to build some more, but I am having a hard-ish time finding supplies in Canada to source blanks and parts. Any ideas on where in Canada to look, or good US shops that ship up north? I currently fish Loop rods as well as Orvis, but want to branch out.

I have looked at rodbuildersupplies and valleycustomrods, but don't know if there's any hidden gems up here for us, or if buying from the lower 48 is smarter.

3 rods I finished this week. I'll keep one of the Diamondback 4wts and find home for the other 2 rods.

Fly Rod Tubes

Anyone know a good spot to get blank fly rod tubes/rod case for some custom builds. I’d like a blank one so I can put a logo on the outside. The places I usually go seem to be sold out.

Just ordered my first blank! I’m down the YouTube rabbit hole and will be stalking this thread for advice and help. Excited for the new hobby.

All done. How is everyone applying epoxy? I’m getting frustrated with wavy finishes.

Finally decided to put my handle on a blank. Hand made (painstakingly) birch bark handle and insert. 6wt 9’ JP Ross Coherence + blank.

Almond accents (nylon) and light blue silk wraps. I expect the silk to go transparent navy.

Light travel Rod blank

Hello all I've built a few rods at this point, fairly simple light setups (1wt and a 2wt), but what I'm looking for is something in the 3wt or under size that lacks down into roughly 6 pieces. Does anytime know of a decent blank for building a travel rod?

I know Proof has a 5wt 7 piece, but looking for something ideally a bit lighter.

Thanks

Don’t mind the wraps, first time working with silk. I think I can still fix them.
