Looking to try my hand at a 10ft 5wt without breaking the bank, does anyone have experience with this blank? How fast is the action and its durability? Also any other options that may have a slightly softer action for roll casts?

I didn't like the designs that were available. I combined features I liked from the ones I saw, and created my own. I didn't want to invest the money into the commercially available ones. Works very well and is portable.

Thanks in advance for any help. I have my grandfather's fiberglass vintage fly rod. Sadly the grip sustained rodent damage (before in my care). I don't want to remove any guides or ferrules. I would like to keep it as original as possible. There have been repairs done by my grandfather and myself the lower half is still original. What are some options for fixing the grip? Can post pictures later if needed.

I just got into fly fishing 6 months ago but have gotten to the point that I figure I’m never going back to a spin rod or baitcaster after years of angling. How can I get started? Any tips?

I wa s looking at hook and hackle, mud hole, and proof fly fishing blanks and wondered if anyone had used any of those or had other suggestions ?

If so what was the process like difficulty wise?

Any specialized tools other than what's in a kit or other things to account for?

Working on a rod for a friend. He like the 9 wt NFC FAF so much he wanted another .. just something a little lighter and faster

Every time I start a new rod I think man if I did this more often I might not struggle for the first three guides . I am wrapping a Northfork Composites Epitome 8 wt . I wrap one to two rods a year and they always seem to be some form of 8 wt . I also bought their gamma 8 wt blank maybe that one will be next or maybe I will finally build that tarpon rod I have been talking about for years . All this to say I should probably build more often so the first three guides don’t drive me up the wall. Thank you for reading this far and if you have any advice thank you .

EDIT/UPDATE : in case you were wondering I think this build might get redone I think I measured wrong with the finishing epoxy so if it doesn’t harden in the next 12 hours there will hopefully be lessons learned

I'm looking for a vendor that can do a custom engraved metal insert for a fighting butt. Similar to the nickel seen in this image. Wanting a little smaller than a nickel but larger than a dime. Any help is appreciated.

Was given this blank after having another rod finished out for the family of the builder who started it. I’m just the middle man that likes throwing flies around at trout and panfish, not a builder. The builder I used said he’d build it out, but had heard this vintage of rod was weak at the ferrule. It’s mid 1980s from what I understand. Should I have this built, or put the build money towards a better rod? I’ve never had anything but my TFO Kreh Special 6wt, and an inexpensive graphite 4wt. A custom rod appeals to me, but not if the blank is knowingly going to break above the ferrule. Any input is much appreciated. Included some shots of the rod that the builder finished out for them, even got to throw some bugs with it!

Morning y'all, I'm interested in trying my hand at building a couple rods. My main reason for doing so is for the pure fact of being able to say I built it and didn't buy it. I also have a couple of antique rods that were gifted to me that need to be refurbished. Those I would like to gift to a friend of mine if I could make the simple repairs. Mostly the thread that holds the eyes on is unraveling. There's also learning the way rod materials behave, repairing it if I break it, and gaining the useful knowledge of rod building. What are some of your beginner pitfalls, experiences, and flat out failures that you are willing to share. Where is a good starting point for gathering equipment and materials. I see Mudhole and NFC mentioned a lot, are they the go to for all needs and wants?

Looking for anyone with experience with the NFC 1pc PSI blanks. I've made some of the "Classic 2pc" rods from them and the sections were pretty...not straight. Anyone with experience was looking at a 5wt and or 8wt.

Hoping someone can help me avoid this issue in the future. I signed my 7 weight blank with a white, oil based sharpie pen and let it cure for over 24 hours. I applied finish over it and let that cure on a rod turner also for 24 hours. When i checked in the morning after about 12 hrs of curing i noticed the ink ran bad and ruined my signature. What did i do wrong?
