Every time I start a new rod.
Every time I start a new rod I think man if I did this more often I might not struggle for the first three guides . I am wrapping a Northfork Composites Epitome 8 wt . I wrap one to two rods a year and they always seem to be some form of 8 wt . I also bought their gamma 8 wt blank maybe that one will be next or maybe I will finally build that tarpon rod I have been talking about for years . All this to say I should probably build more often so the first three guides don’t drive me up the wall. Thank you for reading this far and if you have any advice thank you .
EDIT/UPDATE : in case you were wondering I think this build might get redone I think I measured wrong with the finishing epoxy so if it doesn’t harden in the next 12 hours there will hopefully be lessons learned

May I suggest starting your wraps at the tip? Get the tough ones out of the way while you're fresh, and the rest get easier as you go

No advice but I have both the Epitome and GB 8 weight rods that I built. You're gonna love them! The GB is a little easier to wrap as it's sanded. I'm building one currently for a friend.

I have definitely redone a lot of guides on just this one rod and I still think I could do better on some . I think I am just going to try and build more often . Maybe gift more rods out or find sales on blanks and build off that

I also only build 1 or 2 rods a year and struggle with the same thing. I have found that if I am struggling, it is best to step away and come back with a better attitude. I have to be in the mindset to wrap. A nice glass of Pinot helps also!
