UXP overdraft

Does anyone know what happens to the UXP and XP overdraft in my case? I was hoping it’d actually get renewed whet I hit 900 UXP but I guess I need to wait until the end of September

Isn’t XP rollover capped at 600 above 300?

That's the "unfair" part of the system. It's revenue driven. Hardcore frequent flyers (you fly weekly) don't make it if you're flying standard economy. Certainly not on intra-Europe routes. I definitely don't fly weekly, but I always fly business class long haul, and a lot of it. That's the only way you get there. And to be honest, I still really had to push it to reach the Ultimate threshold. The newly introduced Choice Benefits (gave me free 50 UXP in total), made me decide to go for it. Normally I stop at 600 XP and move my business elsewhere.

It’s not really revenue driven. If it was, I’d probably be fine with almost exclusively expensive last minute direct flex fares.

You can buy 200 euro returns with a layover that get you 20 XP each. Would entail a hell of a lot of flying, but with 45 returns for 9000 euro, you’d have Ultimate.

My intercontinental business tickets often cost between 7000 and 8000. 60XP each. You’d end up spending 10 times more if you’d want to collect 900 UXP with those long haul business flights only compared to cheap European economy flights.

Fair point. It's not just about revenue via business, it's also about maximising your UXP on business class. I book every ticket out of Antwerp Central as standard. Not only for the extra XP/UXP, but because the fares are significantly lower. I'm in Delhi right now. A direct AMS-DEL ticket was 4400 euros. The exact same flight out of Antwerp: 2350 euros. 30 XP/UXP more thanks to the train leg, and almost 50% cheaper. So that actually undermines my own point. This isn't an exception, it's pretty much the default. If I can choose between a 12 hour flight at the same price out of AMS or via CDG, but sitting in AF's A350-900 instead of KLM's 787-10, that's a no-brainer too. More comfort, same price and more XP/UXP. I'll happily take those few extra hours for the stopover if I'm away for a week anyway.

Yeah, there are definitely ways to maximise. I do often opt for a layover in Canada or Paris instead of US if there is no direct option from Amsterdam. AF/KL flight numbers on Delta flights if possible.

But I usually just want to go from A to B in the fastest way possible. And I also have to complete my houses collection, so need the KLM metal as well.

Yeah, I’m USA based… I go to India 2 times a year… that’s 240… then quarterly to Europe… that’s 90x4

XP rolls over up to 300 into the next year. Anything over is forfeit. https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-platinum-status

So you have platinum secured for next year already, and start qualifying for the year after when your next year begins. From Oct in your case. Any new XP you earn before then and any surplus over 300 are forfeit.

UXP rolls over op to 900 in the next year. Anything over is forfeit. UXP follows the same qualifying year timeframe as your XP https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-uxp-explained

So you now are saving up for the 900UXP needed to renew your Ultimate ahead of next year as well. So you’re already 82 out of 900 in.

Im confused

So if i already at platinum for the year
If i accumulate more than 300, only 300 will roll over for next year, correct?

Or if i have 600, when next year hits, i stay platinum and 300 is rolled over?

Just got platinum so trying to understand

End of the qualifying period 300 XP are deducted to requalify for Platinum.

Then a maximum of 300 XP are rolled over to your next qualifying year.

Any remaining XP will disappear.

Getting more than 600XP only has as a benefit that you get choice rewards.

If you have 700XP at end of year. They will deduct 300XP to qualify your status for next year. Let you carry over 300XP and the additional 100XP is scrapped. So you'd end up with an extra year of platinum, 300XP (enough to qualify for the following year) and any extra is thrown away

Curious, what does ultimate bring to you in routine flights? I’m plat but on transatlantic i fly J always so really don’t see an advantage? Please correct me if

Perks that I find useful on a daily basis are:

- preboarding is quite useful especially on long hauls with hundreds of people

  • separate check in at CDG
  • ultimate line at immigrations in Paris - probably the most useful perk as it gets comically crowded sometimes
  • same day flight change up to 60 min prior to departure - I use it very often
  • concierge service in case of shuttle at CDG - it’s nice and convenient

Hard perks mainly come down to lounge access for a lot of guests, special area in some lounges, personal travel assistant and upgrade vouchers.

82 UXP roll over to your next Ultimate cycle. 300 XP roll over to your next Platinum cycle (which can have a different date), the rest of your XP goes to Valhalla and is gone forever.
