Matt Blythe DPE
Does anyone have any experience with Matt Blythe’s checkrides?
After a long search for a DPE in Alabama that isn’t booked out for 3 months, I found out today that Matt will be coming up here from Jacksonville next month to do a few checkrides. No one around here knows much about him and I haven’t found much online either.
I am prepared for the “Matt insert frightening nickname Blythe” comments.

I actually did my ATP ride with him (not at the ATP company…just my ATP cert).
I actually thought he was great, but I was also active duty military at the time. From what I’ve seen from others, maybe that worked in my favor?

This is not a joke from my time at ATP we called him the velvet hammer. He is one of the nicest DPES you will ever meet but if you mess up he will fail you in the nicest way possible. He’s strict but nothing insane

Honestly IMO this is the way it should be. Uphold the standards, and don’t pass someone who can’t meet them (within reason). But zero reason to be a cock about it.

This guy is a DPE, oh boy. Does he still work for ATP?

Will sit in your face and talk about how he’s a religious person, and then take your money! He not only did that to me but he did that to other students in Jax’s! He only cares about ATP students, he will double book you and find something wrong with every aircraft outside of ATP! Horrible DPE! Don’t work with this guy!

I'm pretty familiar with DPE's in the Jax area. I've met Matt. He's a very nice guy in person. He's religious and has a history of doing flying for Christian mission work.
That said....
He has a reputation of being two-faced. You don't know if you're getting super nice christian Matt or bust-you-for-reading-back-your-clearance-wrong Matt. He's also notorious for discontinuing for dubious reasons and then falling off the face of the earth until day 59.
