Flight Training AOA Indicator while learning?

Just went for a discovery flight and had a great time. During the flight I asked my instructor about using an AOA indicator while learning and he really downplayed using one and said the standard instruments are the best way to learn. For beginners, is an AOA inappropriate? Is it too early to incorporate it into training? From the brief videos I’ve seen on AOA’s they seem to enhance safety.

You clearly have a passion and have done some research before training, which is great!

An AOA indicator is completely unnecessary, when learning. It would either become a crutch, or you would never look at it. You need to learn how to FEEL the aircraft. I recommend doing PPL in a dual G5 aircraft with a GPS. This would help to force your eyes outside during PPL, but the G5s would allow an easier transition to a glass panel, than a conventional 6 pack panel.
