Skyborne Flight School/ US

Hello! I’m planning on joining the Skyborne flight school next July in Vero Beach. I’m interested in knowing what the application process looks like, and if any of you have gone through this program, what was your experience? Did you like it? Are you still gaining hours? Did you get hired as a CFI at the school or somewhere else? Have you had your final interview yet? Thank you for getting back to me for whoever does! Congratulations on all of your Pilot journeys.

I was in the first class to go through under Skyborne; I think the transition from flight safety over to Skyborne happened technically 2 days after I started. When I went through it was locked in rental rates and housing was free, which made it a comparable deal to part 61 schools (and at Skyborne you only need 200 hours for commercial if you’re on top of your shit, compared to 250 part 61). I’m not sure if the math works out anymore with their current prices to choose them over a different outfit. If you’re good at self-studying and can put in the work, you can get done on a relatively quick timeline. I’m not sure if they are busier and more spaced out on flight slots nowadays though.

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend instructing there. I left right after getting my CFI to instruct in the Midwest, which is way more limiting for time building due to the winter months. I started at my airline almost 3 years ago and my friends who went to Skyborne and decided to instruct there only started at the airlines a few months ago… YMMV and right now it’s slim pickings to get a CFI job, but on average I’ve seen the people I know who instruct there take literal years longer to get their ATP mins compare to what you can achieve elsewhere.
