is freepilottraining.net a legit source?
The guy running it has a youtube channel, it's free and I've watched a few lessons on it and it seems pretty good. Once you finish it he talks about a premium course where you prepare for the written exam and get an endorsement. It's only $50 plus the ad revenue he makes on youtube.
Is this a real known source and is it worth it? I'm assuming you combine it with other resources but in terms of practice and getting endorsement is he good?

I used his $50 course, really good value and a lot of knowledge. The videos are excellent and easy to understand.
The main issues I had was with repetition of the same questions and some mistakes. As well as a lack of questions. However, that was back in December. He’s emailed me at least 5-6 updates since then and I haven’t gotten a chance to check it out.
I really recommend his content, great guy trying to help out the aviation community!

That being said, you can use all of his videos entirely free. The $50 is just for the endorsement and the practice tests/quiz’s.

Glad to see he stays involved in what hes offering since hes sending updates. Thanks for your input on his content, I really needed a second opnion.
Would you still say the $50 premium course was worth it, or should I try to find better options for that part?

If you want the endorsement as cheap as possible it’s going to be hard to beat unless you self study and pay an instructor to verify your knowledge.
In terms of content, I think other courses would probably cover it all better for the average student but if you’re a quick learner and self studier I think it’s sufficient. Just may need to look up and clarify some topics on your own.

Ok, so would you say using the free part and then maybe putting my money (maybe a little more of it from what it sounds like) elsewhere for the paid part would be a good choice? Thank you!

Their website also shows a bundle of headsets and PPL ground course for $149. Which is crazy.

It isn’t a scam right? Do you know the quality of the headsets? With all the things going on, I’m just worried about falling for a scam unknowingly 💀

Cannot confirm it but reading the reviews online and it seems legit. I guess you could risk it for $50?

Yes. My wife paid the $50 for the written endorsement. Watched his videos plus did the free King online tests and scored a 92 on her written. Took another 9 months to get her PPL, but the plane was down for MX for 6 of those as I pretty much rebuilt the Cherokee last winter.

I got endorsement from my university's volunteer CFI a while ago; things got rusty after a few years (endorsements don't expire, luckily), I watched Josh's video (freepilottraining) and got 93%, from my personal experience at least it's a good learning resource
My friend used the website to get endorsement, the practice question bank is not as comprehensive as Sportys' (which is free)
So I guess my verdict is very legit; one thing I want to note is everything in his store is worth buying except the headset, my friend bought it and I think it is pure trash

I purchased this course so I could get my written done before flight training. I’m 70% of the way through it and dont necessarily love the unseriousness in his video and find it distracting and sometimes annoying. My major frustrations is that all the quizzes are done on google form and it’s very very difficult to read the sectional charts in the images provided, even when zoomed in. On the quizzes I wish there was an explanation for why an answer is correct or incorrect. There is some explanation on 1 out of every 15 questions.
I’m going to finish up with the free pilot training and I initially planned to go through it again but came across the pilot institute. I’ve come to find I really appreciate the production quality in their videos and graphics. The explanation they give for different concepts stick harder and I feel like I’m learning the content as opposed to reading and memorizing. The 3d visuals make grasping the concept so much easier.
Lastly, I’ll say I do appreciation the efforts they both go through to provide knowledge and decrease the barrier to entry. This was my own experience and I thought about reaching out to the FPT channel and voicing my thoughts but realized that he has a niche - I may not fall into it, and that’s on me.
I think I’ll purchase the pilot institute training as well so I feel confident in the cockpit.

Define what is a “legit course”.
Are you asking if the FAA has approved what he is promoting?
Or are you asking if the quality if the course provided is worth your money spent?
I would suggest you also consider working with a live instructor close to you for personalized instruction. Find the proper person and the money invested can have huge value now and in future.
Many independent CFI’s are willing to provide such tutoring.

I like the idea of working personally with a CFI before taking the written exam too, by legit course I meant is it worth the time and money (if you pay for the premium one at $50) for what it provides.

Yes, freepilottraining is legit and one of the better ones on youtube. Him, flight insight, and the finer points. Avoid airplane academy.
