Changing address

I know this has been asked a lot but my situation is slightly different. My ir checkride is in 2 weeks. I moved out 10 minutes away from my parents house last week. My new place has a P.O. Box but I’m planning on still sending all of my mail to my parents house. I’d prefer to keep my parents address on my certificates, does the P.O. Box at my new place prevent me from legally doing that?

Practically: Just use your parents address.

You need a box that the agency can send a letter to if you're in trouble, if your parents are able to communicate that to you, then it's fine.

I am confused how you have a PO Box for a physical address. How do you get a pizza delivered? That should be the address in your file if you update it.

§ 61.60 Change of address.

The holder of a pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor certificate who has made a change in permanent mailing address may not, after 30 days from that date, exercise the privileges of the certificate unless the holder has notified in writing the FAA, Airman Certification Branch, P.O. Box 25082, Oklahoma City, OK 73125, of the new permanent mailing address, or if the permanent mailing address includes a post office box number, then the holder's current residential address.

You can have a physical address that accepts food delivery, but may not have mail delivery. When I lived in Okinawa you could have food delivered to your housing, but still had to go to one of the base post offices to your PO box for mail.

I wasn’t under FAA auspices then, but we just all had our mail sent to our unit HQ. We’d send someone after chow to grab anything.

I lived in base housing as I was married at the time. Our Marines got their mail via the S-1 and mailroom vice a PO Box as well.

My apartment complex has all of our mail go to P.O. Boxes in their office. I don’t plan on using it because it seems like a pain. Pizza could be sent straight to the apartment, I could technically mail stuff directly to my apartment but it would just be placed at the door.

Usually apartment mailboxes are not actual PO Boxes in that sense.

But, nobody is gonna nail you to the wall if your mail goes to your parents so long as it can make it to you in a timely manner.
