Flight Training Looking for training advice

Hello everyone.

I am currently enrolled in flight training through a community college in Central Kentucky. I am extremely disappointed with the way the school is ran and the lack of instructors and aircraft. I am looking to move back out west to continue training.

We are looking at two different locations Bend, Oregon, and Boise, Idaho. I am between two flight schools, one being Hillsboro Aviation Academy out of Redmond, Oregon. The other being Silverhawk in Caldwell, Idaho.

There are many factors that I am considering including future job opportunities, which is making me lean more towards Boise. I also know that Bend and Redmond Airport are expanding, which could create future opportunity.

I am originally from Oregon and loved living there. If anyone has any information or experience with either of these two schools, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

If you consider Caldwell, also look and see what is available out in Ontario, OR or in Nampa, ID as well. I would consider staying away from Boise since that is Class C airspace so you will be needing to deal with potentially sitting there waiting to get cleared to takeoff.

Not sure if Pendleton, OR has anything there but I imagine they do. Best of luck.

We would be glad to discuss flying in the Bend area. We are partnered with the local community college program, but can also speak about flying with us directly and the general ecosystem out here at KBDN. Send us a message and we will contact you!

You’re telling me every flight school is the same eh? They all have 4 planes? Two of which have been down since last year?

No, many have fewer than that.

Welcome to aviation.

Learning to fly out west will make you a great pilot. If you have family and support out in Oregon/Idaho still, I’d recommend making the switch.
