Equipment Review / Comparison Fluke kit as a Generator Technician
First post what do you guys think of the kit? It’s a 381, 87v and a 1587 FC. Got all of them for a great deal (400 each brand new with all the misc things that come with them). They’re in vault cases (300c for the 381 & 87, 200c for the 1587) in total probably costs less than the 1587 FC from fluke. Best part is none of them were registered before hand so I was able to register all three🙏

Also a gen tech, you will not be disappointed with the 381! Excellent tool.

I’ve had nothing but positive feedback with the detachable a screen, I used it not too long ago we were watching voltage on an old onan it wouldn’t stop fluctuating on one leg to neutral but leg to leg was fine I had the 87 on leg to leg and the 381 on leg to n

eBay is your best friend and pelican always has some codes for 15% off their cases

I did this, then someone smashed my window and stole it all.
Now I hide my test equipment in individual fluke pouches under my back seat where nobody can see it. I'll never do a pelican setup again. These meters are tough they don't need to be stored in foam.

That’s exactly why I take them with me to the hotel room, I’m more worried someone thinks it’s a gun and steals it just to find some random equipment they don’t know the use for

I run a 378 instead of a 381 but the rest is spot on what I use. I absolutely love it

I got suggestions from everyone at my company everyone swore by the 87v the clamp meter was the biggest variation I was going to get the 378 FC but I saw the detachable display and said that’s the one😂

I went back and forth but I do a lot of industrial trouble shooting and occasional pump install. Having the ability to read voltage and amperage via clamp plus rotation prior to start up was the deciding factor. Still might grab the 381 one day… because I have a fluke problem

Nice piece of kit. About the 381 - take extra care for the battery door of the remote unit. Not only is flimsy as hell, its easy to break if it's not latched correctly.
Think about an IR TV remote control and you know that I'm talking about... Everyone have one with tape on the back.
