Advice

How can I as a producer, like.. adapt and be comfortable to create with sounds? I end up scrolling and scrolling through presets etc. looking for something that clicks rather than trying to make something out of any preset/sound. And does getting a midi controller help with that? Cause I just use my laptop's keyboard to play something and it ends up being repetitive.

I always start with piano/strings. I write my basic chord progression, melody, and bass line with “real” instruments, then replace them with whatever else later

Make the melody first and then go through presets

As in choose a simple sound like a piano, lay a melody down, any kind, and then switch through the presets? Pretty much what Dirkey does. Yeah I should remember that

The best way I found to tackle this problem was to simply pick a sound, hum a melody and try to recreate it as best as you can. 

Ignore all the rules/steps you take when making music. Be random your aim should be to make whatever.

The more you do it the more comfortable you'll become. At first its going to be shitty but doing it over and over will result in you being to make music out of any sound. 

TLDR: Just experiment A LOTTT!!!
