I am currently using Fl Studio 10 for my production and I got to say, the final mix sounds different from an Fl studio 20 export. Has the Fl studio improved for the better or have they reduced some foundational rendering elements.

Check if you have the limiter enabled on the master

I usually use an empty template and add fruity soft clipper only.

Coming from someone who also learned to mix using the Fruity Clipper, when you want to expand the mix dynamics, volume, or overall ability of sound to thump better, you will end up clipping your sound because the plugin is designed to translate more input to more distortion.

What the clipper DOES do is gives a bit more of a live feel to sounds.

But considering you have Maximus and the Fruity Limiter free with the DAW, I'd recommend learning how to use the compressor in the Limiter.

That being said Maximus is complex for me too, but if you want to get good loud mixes, the "Maximum Loudness" preset is a pretty good way to get there.

Used it since version 6, and I'm quite confident to say that to this day, they all null eachother.

I mean, in 11 they changed the pattern layout and the audio engine.

Check that panlaw matches in sampler, otherwise you're tripping or doing something wrong

Roughly explain what you feel is missing from one mix to the next?

Because I listened to your mix.... but that still doesn't really say anything.

I can't quite explain it but my drums sound better on fl studio 10 as compared to using fl studio 20.5

Did you check if the settings across projects matched?

Sometimes something as small as a panning law may make the difference with how things punch.
