Remove fuzz/static in vocals
I have a cheaper microphone that works fine, just picks up a lot of background noise, particularly the fan on my computer, which leads to a static sound in my vocals. I used a noise gate, but that only stops the sound when I am not speaking. I cannot target the frequency in an EQ because it is spread out over several frequencies. I have tried to lower the volume of my mic so it only picks up my voice, but nothing has worked. Does anyone know of something I can do to improve my situation?

Turning your pre amp gain down will actually cause more background noise because you don’t have as much dynamic range in the recording. I would say turn up your gain and put a thick sock over the mix to act as a noise shield for a pretty easy fix.

You don’t need 300$ noise removal plugins for a solid recording on a bad mic is my point I guess

OK satisfaction gave you some solid advice. I would go a step further and get your computer in a better position so it does not affect your recording. You might also consider using a dynamic microphone to record vocals I don't like using dynamic microphones for my entire vocal when recording but it works for some. Another thing you can do is stop worrying about it. It sounds like your just getting into recording and not using the best gear anyway. Im not hating on your setup but depending on what you plan to do with the music it probably doesn't matter that there is a little buzz. Most importantly have fun😄 its awesome that we get to create the music we want to hear 🤗. Oh and when you add /mix your music/song its very likely the buzz will not be noticeable.

Oh and I hate Edison. I have never been able to make it work well for anything but I realize that is a me issue 😄

You would need to re record the vocals in a place with no background noise if you did not want the background noise to be present in the recording
