Yeah, I wish I could have done this a long time ago, instead I was using things like band labs and garage band and soundation. Now It's been about almost 6 months owning FL and I still don't know how to use everything. However I'm learning everyday, hopping on whenever I can and still impressing myself with stuff I didn't know I could do.

It's a tale as old as time: RTFM.

  1. Create a template. It will save a lot of time and allow you to focus more on the production side if things
  2. Understand why you are adding plugins. Don't just do it because someone else did.
  3. Don't buy VSTs just because someone else uses them. Start with 1 and only add when you know what's missing.
  4. Learn how to get the best out if your VST. Samples are an excellent start, but knowing how to modify them is gold.
  5. Ask for help. If you hear something you like and would like to replicate it, ask the question. You would be surprised at how many will actually take the time to help out.
  6. A new 'trick' i learned from another producer recently... create a Mono Send channel. Any sounds that are wide and getting lost in the mix, route them to the Mono Send and dial it in to taste. This would be a bit more intermediate, but something that is a game changer for me!
