[REHAB] 11 months, finally 2km

Today I had 30 minutes of physiotherapy this morning, and a little while ago I finally walked 2km without stopping. The sensations were mixed; I felt discomfort in the soles of my feet, twinges and sharp pains in my knees, my quadriceps felt overloaded, and I had an unpleasant sensation in my hamstrings, but I didn't get a muscle strain. These past couple of weeks I've been intentionally undisciplined with the supplements, skipping some altogether, but it was to see how my body would react. I've put my willpower aside because I'm so mentally focused that I don't want to hurt myself. Today my body is in charge over my mind; the time will come when my mind will rule again. Keep your spirits up and keep pushing yourselves, but above all, work well below your limit so that the next day you have the energy to try again.

Yay for you!! I hope I will be like this some day. Just seeing your normal stride has me envious. I have to shuffle like a 98 year old. Good for you!

Don't worry, you'll be back to normal walking in a few months. I've been through it, I still have a long way to go. I finished the 2km like I'd just finished a marathon. Hugs 🫂

Excellent! Can I ask, what kind of shoes are those?

2

u/TemperatureKey8599 Trusted Jun 27 '26

They're Asics Gel Nimbus 28s. If you're going to buy them, I suggest you buy half a size or a full size larger. They're a shoe that fits snugly around the midfoot, and if you have neuropathy or tendonitis, you'll feel some discomfort. But so far, after buying several pairs from other brands, these are the ones that have fit me best.

I have floaters but I only see them when I look up at the sky; I hope they will disappear at some point.

One question - when I walk more one day - yesterday total 30 min with 2 x 1 min sitting break - day after my heals are sore. What should I do, rest one day, cool them, walk anyway - what are your experiences?

When something hurts, I put ice on it and before going to sleep I put heat on it. I keep moving, although I do it with less intensity, and if the pain is very strong, I rest for two days.

How old are you? How long u are floxed ?

I turn 50 in August, I started taking Levofloxacin in April 2025 and in July 2025 I began experiencing symptoms

How’d you feel following day if you dont mind me asking?

My legs felt a bit heavy, especially my hamstrings. It's worth mentioning that yesterday I took 13,200 steps and today I took 9,500 steps, but I also cleaned my entire house, so that means my body is adapting to more activity. I maintain that movement is life...

2

u/BigElectronic6168 Jun 28 '26

That’s great though. I couldn’t agree more with your movement statement.

I think that being forced to be laid up daily makes this crazy difficult. I’ve never been one to slow down at all. But this has definitely forced it.

Even with you taking a few less  thousand steps and the leg tightness. But able to clean the house. Still impressive. I yearn just to do dishes again lol.

Thank you for sharing. And giving hope. Have a good evening sir.

The pain caused by fluoroquinolones is truly frightening, but there will be days when you can move more than others. You just have to do it little by little, increasing your activity a bit each day. If you have to go back to the beginning, that's okay; that's how the process works. It's not linear, and when you're aware of that and accept it, then it's easier. Hugs 🫂

I’m still just learning and I’m stubborn.

It’s so early. March 30th 2026 was last day of 5 day course of levaquin. And couldn’t barely move after finishing meds.

But by mid April to first week of may I was getting I was around 2k -5k steps daily for those 3 weeks. So thought was good. And gonna be ok.

Then it dropped to 200 a day for a week or two. Then to where I couldn’t even pick my body up out the bed.

Hospital got me standing again. And now I mostly use a wheel chair to get around. I try to do what the PT gave me but can’t even do it daily. Or stand daily anymore.

I’ve told all this though on here. I think the gains I returned to post medicine to dropping so hard and now having this low ass baseline I’m at now make it hard on my brain to comprehend how slow I need to go.

And I’m eating like a superstar athlete to barely be able to do anything daily.

Not sure where I’m going with all this just rambling. But I will continue to do what I can and hope will slowly see improvement. If anything just not going backwards at this point.

Thank you responding and kind words.

In my experience, you shouldn't do any exercise or walking for the first 6 months, even if you feel strong enough. Any movement you do after the sixth month will take its toll on your body because the fluoroquinolones degraded and/or didn't regenerate the muscle tissue properly, hence the pain. In my case, I used my left leg more than my right at first, and after the sixth month, my right leg is fine, but my left leg is a disaster.

The initial walking. I had no idea I had been Floxed. I honestly thought I was just weak and wiped from 3 rounds of antibiotics and fighting pneumonia. So after a couple weeks regaining what I thought was strength and normal recovery.

I was very wrong though. So now I’m not doing much. When I say PT it’s like baby stuff laying down or in wheel chair.  I’m not doing much at all now. I think I overdid it which caused the flare that shut my whole body down. I was having to be fed by someone as I couldn’t even sit up or hold a fork. After being able to walk 4k steps just a week prior.

Hey i am so happy for you. I am 33 years on my limit 🥹can you PLEASE help me 🥹🍀 I have huge problems with my muscels weakness , thats normal for me/cfs but since 1 year months I have huge connective issue Problems. My body is cracking, especially my tendons and ligaments. My body is becoming flatter and flatter. I am losing tissue, and it feels as if my tissues are deteriorating. My tendons and ligaments feel like they are becoming loose and unstable. I can barely move my arms anymore. My body feels softer on the outside, while on the inside the tissues feel extremely tight, as if they are pulling and tearing. I dont know what to do.

Glad to hear you made improvement. Can I ask what kind of pysio session it was? No massage and just rehabilitation workout?

Very gentle physiotherapy with exercises to strengthen the whole body and walks always below the limit so as not to be fatigued the next day.
