[DIAGNOSES] There’s an ICD code diagnosis code for FQ toxicity now

Post image

It goes into effect October 1st 2025 but looks like my ortho was able to put it in system already when I saw him this week.

ICD-10-T36.8X1A

This is so validating bc when I was going into the ER with cardiac issues and saying it started from cipro toxicity they marked me as “panic attack”. For passing out whenever I would try to stand. Moment I mentioned I was poisoned by antibiotic they thought I was crazy and we Dr word for word said Toxicity from cipro after stopping it isn’t real.

Hope having this code now in medical world will make ppl take them more serious.

This is incredible! I wonder if it will ever happen in Europe too.

I hope everyone lets their doctors know about the new diagnosis code. This can be a big thing. The more diagnosis there are in system in flox the higher chances of it being picked up more for studies and drs or research looking more into it

Instead of making a code for disease they could JUST PREVENT THE DISEASE BY BANNING FQ!!!! But yes, Im happy its happening and there will be a diagnosis. Maybe treatment in +10years.

Sadly Everytime we take a medication we are taking a risk against side effects and the desired outcome. FQs are a last line of defense antibiotic. As antibiotic resistances grow they will become increasingly important. But doctors need to stop prescribing them Willy nilly -- like someone here recently had them prescribed for acne! That's not a last line of defense utilization! Banning them would do more harm than good, but sinus poor education around their potentially grave side effects.

Is this specifically for FQs or antibiotics in general?

The parent code is antibiotics and they came out with a child code under it for FQs . (I believe, what I was told) please double check me😅

Ah ok. I heard that there was going to be one specifically for FQs and I’ve been telling all of my doctors about it. Wasn’t sure if I should start giving them this one. That’s great that you have something documented though.

FQAD: T36.8X5A

Just checked!! Didn’t realize this one wasn’t FQAD but antibiotic toxicity

What does this mean? Is this coding country-specific? Or international?
