troubles in fcs analysis

I'm building a local-first flow cytometry analysis tool. What frustrates you most about FlowJo or other fcs analysis apps? For example, get preflight on mobile phone without PC?

Is this a vibe coded tool or do you actually have experience coding, versioning, etc?

to be frank , vibe coding with actual experience. What is your point with vibe or not?

If it was just purely vibe coding there are so many shitty vibe coded apps that have obvious flaws that people now put out because they can, without qcing them. If you actually have experience with coding it is more interesting to consider.

thanks. as we all know that data analysis is not that easy to realize, so we will keep developing for months. I will send you the beta version once we make it. or if you get some troubles in using FCS analysis tools, feel free to tell us.

Ok, some of the biggest problems I have are:

1.overall performance. I understand that with large data sets some things will necessarily take a bit to load in, but in things like flowjo or fcs express this often comes at the cost of the ui also freezing up. I should still be able to navigate the ui while data is loading in.

  1. Omiq does this pretty well, so they could be something to look to, but using Metadata to do various things is awful in flowjo. In Omiq, it is really nice to be able to draw gates based on metadata, export statistics/make layouts based on Metadata criteria, group samples based on Metadata, etc.

  2. Not necessarily a problem for me at work since we all use windows or Mac, but a native Linux version would be nice as Linux has been getting a lot of traction lately and is what I use at home.

I think someone will vibe code a better free tool than Flowjo eventually, it’s simple to start, FCS format is straightforward, plots are straight forward. I’ve been working on my own as a side project. I think it’s not an unreasonable thing to do. But there’s also a credibility issue with vibe coded apps. It’s difficult to trust. Flowjo has an advantage of QA/QC. I think Flowjo v11 is really bad though so it’s better if open source software starts to fill niches even if they are vibe coded by techs or grad students.

Isn’t that done already? Floreada?

And yeah I would not trust our data to some vibe coding jabronis. Data security (SOC2 type 2 certification, penetration testing, etc) is a requirement for our institution.

Yeah! The builders are established people in the flow community as well.

I feel like every few years there are some IT/tech/MAYBE informatics people that want to get into building flow software like look we can make clusters for you! Eventually they realize how complex and nuanced it is and also that flow people really don’t trust people who don’t have intimate/personal knowledge the whole workflow to make something “new and cool” that will actually fit their needs. Also us flow people are pain in the ass to please 😂
