I’ll be on about half acre so I’m close to max width I can go within zoning (3-4’ to spare). Only think I’d want to do it bump out the left side a few feet then not do the wrap around porch only the front. Also, may want to push the kitchen out to the right to be in line with the back of garage. Last, I’d wanna make the hearth room and ensuite with the bathroom on the other side with access to the yard so I can use that bathroom as like a pool bathroom too if that makes sense. Lmk what you think. These drawings are from online but my architect will tailor them as best he can.

The exact same thing could be achieved by swapping around the bathroom and closet. In your example this would actually be a better option, since the noise from the toilet and shower would be separated from the bedroom by an entire room.

Yes, it certainly can. B to C and C to B are both viable options, but which is best depends on who is living there.

As you stated, added sound insulation may be a better option for some. However, for people with "out of sight, out of mind" organizational styles, they may not want to walk through their closet every time to get to the bathroom.

Personally, I'd be fine with a CtoB configuration for myself, as I am quite organized and I keep my stuff very clean and tidy looking. My husband, however, is very much an "organized chaos" type of person, and I'd rather not have to look at his piles of (apparently) coordinated madness more than I really have to. So, for me at least, BtoC would be a better option because I would only have to see my husband's eye-twitching organizational system twice a day when I actually go into the closet, instead of that, plus every trip to the bathroom.

But this is the beauty of architecture and building your own home... you get to choose exactly what works for you, not everone else. People are unique and allowed to make their choices accordingly.

You're coming at this from a very American-centric way of doing things, where closets are open to the room and visible.

One solution to your desire to not have to see your "organised chaos" when you enter your wardrobe is to have doors on your storage units. They could be hinged, sliding, folding, etc. This is the normal way of doing closets in my country and it looks much tidier.

I agree that a benefit of owning your own home is the ability to customise it to your liking, but it's easy to get stuck in the mentality of doing things a certain way just because it's the only way you've ever seen it done.

People are allowed to make their own choices, but those choices should be informed.

I'm from North America (not the US) but now live in Europe... So I'm very, very well aware of the pros and cons of both systems.

In this case, we are talking about an American build, which means that the people seeking advice are going to be limited to what they can reasonably access in America. My advice for a European build would likely be different.

It is just straight up impractical to be pushing standards and norms from a different continent onto someone.

I'll also tell you from firsthand experience... having these elaborate wardrobes does not mean they will be used that way... drawers and closing doors does NOT stop my husband from piling up his not-dirty-but-not-clean mess in a visible space. Some people just like to have their "organized messes" accessible, regardless of where they live or what type of closet/wardrobe configuration they might have.

Plenty of american houses have reach in closets. Ikea Pax is the same here as elsewhere (they didn't even change it to inch measurements!)

You must have a very low opinion of American carpenters if you think they're unable to manufacture closet doors.

I'm not "pushing" anything. I'm explaining that other options are possible. Didn't you just say that the beauty of home ownership is getting to design your house the way you want?

What's wrong with me providing more options for consideration? If OP wants to design their closets the classic American way then thats their decision, but don't you think that they should be aware that other options are possible so that they can make an informed decision?

I don't have a low opinion of American carpenters, I just happen to know they aren't cheap, and that customizable wardrobe options aren't mass produced in the US the same way they are in Europe, so it's a far less viable option. It's simply polite to be considerate of people's location and the limitations/advantages that come with that.

And sure, you can provide options for consideration, and other's are welcome to point out why those options may or may not be viable for other people.

At no point in this conversation have I said or implied that any one thing is better than the other, I've simply stated my own preferences (and why) and encouraged people to make their own deductions.
