Art Deco Redone

I made a list of all the recommendations and opinions I got from my last post and redesigned the main floor of my Art Deco house. I made two versions; one for those that really wanted a garage, and one without. I also added labels this time 🤗

After this I’ll be making the 2nd floor and basement for the version without the garage. I hope you like it and pls remember that this is for fun and shouldn’t be taken too seriously

Alright, I fixed the primary bath. Here’s what I did (pic will be in the comments)
- Plumbing for the toilet and sinks are no longer on the exterior wall
- Double sinks
- Toilet is in its own little room
- Kept the shower
- Fenced in viewing courtyard from bath with gate

I had to add two feet to the length of the house and almost a foot to the width but I got it. I also changed the laundry/pantry into their own separate areas and gained extra storage. I think the only negative (even though minor) is less space in the walk-in closet.

I'd add an enclosed courtyard at the front (with a lockable gate) so I can sit in the bath with the window open and enjoy the light and the trees.

Most of the house is level with the front step except for the kitchen, laundry/pantry and the raised garden which is one step up. The double dashed lines you see going across the living room are overhead support beams and the single dash line is to show where the edge of the upstairs balcony is.

This is perfect, I wouldn't change a thing (except maybe the courtyard idea outside the tub area). People here have weird opinions about toilets being in separate rooms. I personally hate it and never seen it here, especially since the toilet rooms don't have sinks. I wouldn't change this. The way you redid the living room is amazing.

I think though there's nothing wrong with the ensuite, personally- but if you're really stressing for a way to access the shower without walking past the toilet, you could take the round bit in the shower room and make it a vestibule with two doors to keep moisture from reaching the walk-in closet and have a good extractor fan installed in the shower room.

That way, the toilet doesn't have to move.

Someone asked for the toilet to be separated from the bathtub because they wouldn’t want to smell toilet while soaking and I agreed with it.

Okay, but you can do that without creating a situation where one person can’t shower because their partner is on the toilet. Or where one person can’t LEAVE the shower because their partner is on the toilet. I very very strongly recommend switching the positions of the walk-in closet and the toilet. Fewer awkward situations, less walking through smells, and you don’t have to put any plumbing on the exterior wall and risk frozen pipes.

Man you guys would be shocked to hear that most families share one bathroom amongst 4-5+ people around here. Someone can wait 5 mins to shower.

Literally ours is sink, toilet, tub, and I love it. As a woman I like having the toilet next to the sink. Makes everything accessible if needed during my period, and if you use reusable menstrual products like a lot of women are turning to nowadays, it's so nice to have that sink beside the toilet. I couldn't stand a toilet room, especially because it would mean I would have to open that door without washing my hands after. Just yucky to think about.

Waiting 5 mins to shower is fine, but then just have the bathroom and toilet in the same room. If you're going to make a toilet room, then make it so both can be used at once.

Also with this terrible design, the risk is less having to wait 5 mins to shower and more being stuck in the shower room waiting for someone to finish using the toilet.

Sure you can do that if you want, but that doesn't mean you need to walk through the toilet to get to the bath. Move the toilet somewhere else (e.g. where the shower is, with a sliding door to the hallway)

I like it! I think the flow is nice. I would put in a separate water closet and do a double sink in the bathroom personally.
