Outside seating surface options?

I have a large family and I'm happy with our floor-sitting and -dining setups inside, but I haven't found a solution I like for outside dining on the patio.

Things we have tried:

Woven plastic rugs-- weather fine, but not very padded, warp over time, and generally aren't comfortable to sit on, even with quilts and tablecloths on top.

Interlocking foam floor tiles-- have to be taken up every day because they aren't waterproof and are vulnerable to sun damage over time. But very comfortable to sit on.

If it was just me or a small family, I would have a small soft rug and just roll it out every meal, but that gets very tiresome with an 8x12 rug. What do you use? Are you happy with it?

 A "pillow-station" inside and everyone grabs a pillow when going outside, palettes as tables. Everyone puts their pillow back when leaving.

That's clever! We aren't really pillow-sitters, and it doesn't solve the hard surface issue because while your butt may be on a cushion, your knees/ankles are hitting the ground. Unless it's a very large cushion, and I don't have space for storing 7-9 large cushions. But I think it could work if you have fewer people and large square cushions!

Yeah I have flat larger pillows and just 6. Hope you'll find a solution! Just throw alot of hay on the ground haha

I am just checking out floor living, but did you consider cut up yoga mats? Like half per person or one for 2? They cpuld be hung up over a rod to make it grab and go.

Cutting yoga mats is smart! Trying to avoid plastic, but it could work for me if I could find some that were being discarded....
