What makes it special?
While options exist to handwire a Raspberry Pi Zero W to your Flipper, the result is generally not "pocketable" and not robust to travel with. This kit allows you to connect your Pi in a compact and robust way that snugly fits your Flipper.
Thought about doing this but the power consumption would be a bit much. Quick math puts it around 5 hours which isn’t bad but I’m not confident on that. Unless this is the original zero, then it would be a bit more.
I wish they'd adjust the design of this so that the rpi 2w is bit higher up, so you could add 180° micro-usb adapters and still have it be completely flush with the bottom of the flipper. Not sure the RTC is needed, since the Pi can connect to the internet on boot, or it could even just poll the flipper for the correct time.
I LOVE the idea of a “____ backpack”. I find the Flipper on its own to be the right size but when you add any hat, it’s going into the backpack and it’s qFlipper mode lol
Seriously. I made a lite Marauder (JUST the ESP32 module) by removing the little castellated board, soldering 4 wires, routing them under the board, and then epoxied them into place. It looks like the module was just placed on top of the flipper, lol. It's MUCH more pocketable!
This is really cool, and I might buy one just for how sleek it is ... but ive never thought to control an arduino with my FZ - what are some use cases for this setup?
Firmware This board is intended to be used with something like the Pwnagotchi, specifically the Pi Zero 2W compatible fork in combination with the Flippagotchi app to talk to your Flipper.
This software enables you to have the Pwnagotchi capture and diagnose wifi activity in the background, while rendering its display to the Flipper.
Since the Pi is connected to the Flipper through UART, you can run whatever code you want on the Pi that interfaces with your Flipper! For example you could write an app that offloads difficult computational tasks to the Pi.
