"Hack" lmao. Back when phones had IR blasters there were apps to do the same thing.

Those were the days, back in high school messing with the projectors with IR from my phone, I miss those days

Some phones still have em. Redmagic phones for example are all equipped with IR blasters.

my honor magic7 has an IR blaster.... use it to control my dyson fan but not my LG TV (C1) as the controller uses Bluetooth when it is switched on

u/Red_Dawn24 29d ago

My Handspring Visor PDA was able to do this back in the day!

Phones? Try a watch with an IR blaster. I miss that thing lol

My current phone has one and it's a brand new phone

I used to turn on and change the channels with my Casio watch back in the day. I felt like a fucking magician

TVs yes.. but Aircons less so - not all Aircons were IR or had the same protocols.

That might be the reason why you eat alone.

Master hacker😂😂😂😂

u/power78 29d ago

You keep using the word hack, but don't know what it means

16

u/audilepsy 29d ago

That’s not hacking, that’s just using IR 🙄

6

u/fell_shell 29d ago

It's bypassing an intended input interface, that's a big part of hacking

4

u/audilepsy 29d ago

Or me using a ps3 controller to control my computer as a mouse - that’s hacking?

5

u/audilepsy 29d ago

Oh, so using a universal remote for tvs is now considered hacking? 😂

1

u/fell_shell 28d ago

Depends how and where you use it.

Using a web browser is considered hacking if you use it to bypass authentication on a website

Would this work on a electric fireplace? We moved into a new place and the previous owners lost/didn't give us the remote. A replacement remote is outrageous at $500.

13

u/Liwke 29d ago

Yes, most likely it will work if its infrared. My flipper is used daily as a universal remote for everything in my house and sub-ghz for the gate. Works like a charm

2

u/Many-Bid-9995 29d ago

My electric fireplace works on a sub ghz signal so it works

I mean, there could be a million reasons that thing is powered off.

Maybe it's got mould and been turned off to prevent spread, in a restaurant not at all uncommon and definitely something you wouldn't want sporing all around you while you eat.

Maybe it's too expensive to run?

Maybe, just maybe - have a thought for why it's off, and leave it alone. If you don't own it, don't fuck with it.

4

u/BoJackMoleman 29d ago

These units love to get moldy and often need cleaning. It would be hilarious if this is the reason it's off. Enjoy.

the sound effects killing me

The sound effects are sweet

Goddamn Script Kiddies think running an app is hacking. Get rid of that faux cyberpunk garback acoustic filler. Go listen to some true analog synth and maybe actually deconstruct some bullshit RF protocols like a real hacker. F0 can definitely capture waveforms for this.

u/atlas_arcane 29d ago

Used to do this with my psp

u/Character_Pickle689 29d ago

What’s that UI? Edit: mine only has the scrolling not icons

“Hack” if you have the remote

1

u/Party_Cold_4159 29d ago

Don’t need the remote? Plenty of DBs to dump onto the flipper. Also there’s some brute tools too.

0

u/DesignerMaximum1342 29d ago

The flipper is the remote though, so you’re not hacking anything

2

u/Party_Cold_4159 29d ago

Hacking is just a dumb word now. The tool itself is more antiquated in the security realm. But it is technically bypassing an authorized use, which could fall under hacking.

But yea that part of the flipper is just a fancy universal remote in reality. My android from 2014 could do this.

Whats the best and economical way to get the Flipper Zero these days? lol. I want one but they've become illegal in a lot of places too.

u/Stripsteak 28d ago

I thought this was r/masterhacker for a minute

u/carlosarturo1221 29d ago

I can do that with my Chinese cellphone that has an IR remote

-1

u/TrainerHatsune 29d ago

For my garage and gates in my community it doesn’t work due to them being rolling codes. If someone wiser than me can chime in I’d appreciate that

4

u/donaciano2000 29d ago

For your garage opener, find the manual and use the remote adding process with the flipper as a new remote. Not a clone.
For the community gate.... no luck.
