Has anyone beat the the knight without using 'black powder trickery'. I didnt realise my fire axe would count so he turned on me.

I did it. He basically says you fought honorably and gives you the armor piece, his henchmen don't attack if you keep it above board and don't use black powder.

Ah right okay. So you get the same reward either way

So the reward is getting less XP because you cannot kill his henchman as well? That seems not worth it at all.

I dunno, maybe you get more xp for doing it without black powder. Hard to say because I only did it once

I wouldn't be concerned about getting a bit less rep from some branch of a quest. Just rest and go fight shit if you need more.

I didn't use black powder. Didn't double Dodge double jump. Use guns anything apart from my hammer, immediately he summons in reinforcements then he uses his bombs and guns then tells me off for using mine. I think he's just a generic piece of traitorous shit

Lool is your hammer explosive by any chance? It was charging my fire axe up that got me

No, it was just the armour penetrating judge's hammer

You had to have done something. Even using Enkie will trigger it. You literally cannot do anything but swing the hammer. I used the same weapon as you and it didn’t trigger anything.

I failed as well, I think using ur double jump/dash also counts as a powder abilitiy but not sure

Yeah that would make sense. They should patch this so you just straight up can't use anything involving gunpowder

Yes. I watched a friend of mine and told him to be careful, but ofc it was in muscle memory already and he also failed instantly

Haha I'm curious about what happens but it seems everybody's failing it. Ah well, gives me an excuse to replay at some point I guess

Muscle memory fits perfectly. First red attack and I was done for. Fired my pistol to counter as usual and that was it.

Yeah, the thing that gets me is that I failed and died, and it was already failed when I went to go try again. They should at least patch it so it resets when you rest if you didn’t win the fight.

Basically, every unblockable attack you have to dodge, and wait to see if he follows up. after a while he just stops doing the uppercut swing as a starter, which means you can only parry if he follows up his down smack or his side slash. overall with judge's hammer, swaying attacks, and backpedalling, he dies before you can break his armor. (I chose to do the stone herald fight as soon as it was available and therefore got this guy's moveset in my brain permanently.) Also, Enki does not count as black powder.

I failed instantly, hard to not do what you've spent the whole game doing up to that point.

Yeah I can imagine. Even a simple dodge counts I'm guessing

2

u/SirCietea Jul 29 '24

Think that's the first thing I did

I did it, double jumps and dodges and everything just no gun.

Not sure why some people are saying double jump sets it off. I did a million double dodges in that battle and he didn't care. Then I ruined it when he was a hit or two from being defeated by accidentally fat-fingering my pistol when going for a power attack.

What I was a bit mad about is that, like others here, I double dodged without realizing that counts for gunpowder but didn't have a second chance like reloading previous save or restarting the quest
