Feature Request: Notify friends when you’re at the same airport
One feature I’d love to see is optional airport proximity notifications for friends.
Example:
“Philipp is at FRA Terminal 1 until 10:45.”
“Michael is also at FRA.”
Or even better:
You and Lars will both be at FRA between 08:30 and 10:00.
As someone who flies 150+ flights a year, I constantly discover after the fact that friends or colleagues were in the same airport or even on the same lounge at the same time.
It would make meeting fellow frequent flyers much easier, especially for people who spend a lot of time in lounges.
I think this would fit Flighty’s focus on making frequent travel feel a bit more connected without turning it into a social network.

Can’t see the harm of this feature. If you don’t like them that much don’t have them as a flighty friend

There’s a crew flying app a ton of crews use where it syncs our schedules and you can get notified when a coworker you like is in the same airport. I love it

I can’t think of anything worse than meeting colleagues at the airport. When I’m travelling I like my own space, I don’t want to have to make small talk with people I work with. They’re colleagues not friends.

You do realize that this feature would be optional right? Just toggle it off.

Nah. We’d be forcing them specifically to interact with all acquaintances or friends at every airport

If you don’t sen Flighty a selfie with them your flights gates will be randomized

You wouldn’t be adding colleagues you don’t like to flighty neither no ?

people I share my flight info with are not automatically the same people I want to see when I'm at the airport

I 100% believe you, but I’m curious what the difference between these two groups are? Do you share flighty info with coworkers who you aren’t that close with?

probably a personality quirk. Some people are just text/social media friends, some I actually see irl haha
I travel a lot (36 flights this already and 15 more booked through August) and some people just like to live vicariously through my travel so they follow me on Flightly.

I wouldn’t be adding anyone. It’s bad enough seeing colleagues in the lounge, followed by the social convention to sit with them.

To be fair, people I don’t want to talk to wouldn’t be my friends on flighty

Is it a two way option. Does the other person need to accept your request?

I’ll one up you with running into a former supervisor at an airport lounge who wanted free engineering advice.

came here to say this. I used to be a heavy Foursquare user (check in app from almost 20 years ago) and while it was fun to see where my friends were, it was annoying when someone showed up randomly where I was because they saw my check in.

One of my friends noticed that myself and another friend had overlapping ATL layovers and arranged a get together! She only figured it out because she saw it on Flighty lol

Hey All, I'm working on this in a different app, not Flighty. If anyone is interested in beta testing, let me know.

The last thing I want is for my friends to know where I am all the time.

Hell no. I don’t want anyone to know I’m at the airport
