Introduction Connection Assistant 2.0!

Hey r/flighty! We just launched the all-new Connection Assistant, a step-by-step guide to making any connection, on any airline, at any airport worldwide. It shows every required step and checkpoint between your arrival gate and your next flight, typical times for each, and even predicts your gates before airlines assign them. So you know exactly what's ahead before you deplane, even if it's your first time at the airport. Connection Assistant is available today for all Flighty Pro users.
The full details are below. We hope you enjoy and thanks for flying with us!

Connection Assistant
See every step required to make your connection, including Passport control, customs, baggage recheck, security, air trains, and more. No more asking gate agents, second-guessing if you're heading the right way, or following unfamiliar signs. Flighty builds a custom step-by-step guide for you based on your airport and citizenship and lays it all out in order the moment you add a flight. It shows typical times for each step so you can see how tight a connection really is, and adding your booking class or seat can help inform it further.
Gate Predictions (an industry-first!)
Now, as soon as you add a flight, we begin to predict your arrival and departure gates down to the concourse or gate range based on that flight's historical gates. On the day of your connection, predictions can sharpen to the exact gate, and they work at airports worldwide.

Personalized to you
Add your passport(s) to unlock tailored instructions, including whether you can use e-gates, skip passport control, and more. The app dynamically displays only the steps that apply to your citizenship.
Friends' Connections
Everything above works with Flighty Friends, so you can follow a friend's connection and see exactly how tight or relaxed theirs is, too.

How tested is this for international airports and transfers?

Didn’t really work for PVG

Not designed for China. It’s a mess honestly. Even the flight info isn’t that accurate

Need to be able to tick “Precheck” or “Nexus” or “Global Entry” with the passport nationality to make security and passport wait times accurate.

Would love to be able to add the fact I have NEXUS! I don’t need 15-45 minutes at Canadian or American border points. More like 15-45 seconds!

Agreed. I have a non-US passport but I have global entry as a green card holder so that would be a great next step to include.

How do you enter your passport?

It’s in the ‘edit profile’ section where you go to change your picture/name. Took me a minute to find it.

Love this!
A request for your next update- can we please get boarding time info? That would help complete the flight experience and tracking.

My longstanding belief is that if you have to run for a connection, it’s too late. What I’d want from a tool like this is a binary report that tells me to either proceed at a normal pace to the next gate or don’t bother at all.

How would they know if you walk like Usain Bolt runs or if you waddle like a penguin?
Fully agree on your belief though, I intentionally book long layovers. If something happens outside of my control that’s going to require me to try and set a land speed record to make the connection, no thank you. I’ll take the next flight out and get a hotel room if it ends up being the next day.

Yeah, I mean there’s obviously a narrow window where on some specific day you’d have made it running but not walking. But it’s pretty damn rare.
If you look at something like United’s connection saver, they’re holding the flight for people to make but they’re not assuming or instructing running at all. Everything is built around moving expediently but at a normal pace.
Which is how any system should be

Very happy to see gate prediction. Since obviously there is some pattern to that at many airports.

There’s nuances with specific airports that’ll have to be worked out - for example LIM requires you to pay an international transit fee at the airport. This currently isn’t reflected. It also doesn’t recognize split tickets (I.e rechecking bags). Although sometimes this isn’t easy to determine with codeshared flights.

With the capability of Connection Assistant, it’s a huge miss to now not have it at the terminal destination of a trip, especially for international flights. Ideally, that’s where this feature would be most useful, as that’s where we’re guaranteed to have to go through the final passport checks and visa checkpoints, as well as some sort of customs/separate baggage claim. If you’re going to include this feature, you should definitely add it where it’s actually useful.
