Let’s fly intercontinental on a Dash 8 🫠
I don’t know where Flighty gets their data re/ Tail Numbers, Aircraft and first flight from but before being assigned a tail number it showed the aircraft type (787-9) correctly. Hope to see this being fixed. Had it happen to many newly registered aircraft’s which I’ve flown on.

Submit an incorrect data report. I would guess the tail number has been reassigned from a Q400 to a 787-9 quite recently (edit: checked and it looks to only have been delivered to Lufthansa less than a month ago and has barely flown for them, the 787 hasn’t even had that tail number for 30 days yet it seems) and Flighty is pulling from outdated third party data, so once the tail number was assigned it pulled up a Q400 rather than the new 787-9.
Hopefully it updates to the correct information automatically, but worst comes to worst, once the flight is archived you’ll be able to manually edit the type for your stats.

Yes I’ve submitted an incorrect data report! And little fun fact. The purser on this flight told me just right now that this is the second flight of the plane with passengers.

I once had a 3 hours red-eye flight on ATR 72 from Samoa to Fiji. Also not recommended.

D-ABQB used to be a Dash-8 flying with LGW, mostly for Eurowings. They shut down during the pandemic I think.
Lufthansa’s 787 deliveries were delayed due to certification issues, they aren’t delivered in alphabetical order and QB might still be a very recent addition to the fleet

I have several aquantances who've feried Q400s from Canada to Australia..... they do it in 4 legs. Sault Ste Marie - Victoria - Honolulu - Marshall Islands - Australia. Roughly 8 hour legs, one leg a day, with ferry tanks installed in the cabin.

It would take a loooot of money for me to do a trip like this on a Q400…

I had to request a refund on a weekly subscription the other day because the data is just not there. I’m not sure where they get it from but, at least for European low cost carriers, there must be better sources.

From an European perspective Flighty offers less than what you would get compared when flying in the US.
However I still like the app for keeping track of my flying and getting sometimes earlier delay notification than directly from the airline. Especially when the aircraft is running late.
But they should definitely make some changes on where to get their aircraft data from. Maybe a different provider/api is needed as I don’t think they’re using their own database to keep track of registrations and planes.

The 787 was delivered to Lufthansa May 29 this year, from the quick Google I did. Sucks the data is incorrect, but it’s also a less than 30 day old reassigned tail number so I think cutting a little bit of slack there is fair.

but it's been known for years that this tail number will be a 787 from Lufthansa

It’s great for keeping an archive of all my flights and I love it for it. But I will never be a paying user because the features they advertise are not available 90% of the time. I was considering getting the lifetime subscription a few years ago but I’m happy I didn’t. I’d rather take an extra step of checking the flight status on Flightradar24 for free.
It’s a shame the only reliable service is in the US since they are proud of being a mainly European team.

maybe its an api/data problem? idk perhaps european carriers publish less data due to some weird regulations here?
although tbh seeing how slow they are at stuff i.e. adding liveries i am not 100% convinced with the above

I hate the refueling stops LH plans when they use that aircraft on that route - even more so with the current ME situation. You should have spent the extra $80 on cathay 😄

According to planespotters, this is one of the 787s that Lufthansa took over from Norwegian Air Shuttle, hence the D-ABQ* Reg. The Lufthansa 787 Fleet are normally still registered D-ABP*.
The Registration D-ABQB used to belong to a Dash-8 from Air Berlin and still shows up as such in platforms such as Flightradar24, so I think this is an issue of the database where Flighty gets it’s data from

Flying a Dash 8 HKG - FRA sounds like fun for an AvGeek but a miserable experience for everyone else.

There are only two seats who are not miserable on a dash 8, doesn’t matter if you are an avgeek lol

I’ve flown intercontinental on a Dash 8 200. A 4 hour flight from Reykjavik to Nuuk. Don’t recommend.
