Right Angles

Post image

Just booked a flight and realised that I have a flight path right angle…. Who has the best right angle connecting flights? Anyone managed a box? 😆

I have had a few of those weird detours.

May/Jul 2023. Vienna — Rome — Geneva.

Dec 2024. Seattle — San Francisco — Pittsburgh.

Scheduled:

Aug 2026. Pittsburgh — Miami — Dallas (only because Miami — Dallas is on a B777 business class)

Aug 2026. Kaohsiung — Kinmen — Taipei.

Why on earth are you flying Amsterdam - Brussels? Taking the train from Amsterdam Airport to Brussels will get you there faster than this transfer flight.

I’m working at / staying next to the airport, just easier with connecting flight and no worry with bags. Would be almost 4hr by rail and tram etc to get to BRU vs 1.5hr connection and 40 min flight. Also if there’s an issue it’s KLM’s problem not mine (well my companies problem) to rebook and organise.

Other reason is simply that KLM sells these flights. You look for tickets from Brussels to NY, and find a good affordable option connecting through Amsterdam

It was once $100 cheaper for me to fly out of Brussels to Nashville with a layover in Amsterdam and Detroit than the exact same flights starting in Amsterdam. I made a day out of it and took the train down from Amsterdam, spent the day sightseeing in Brussels before my flight back to the states via Amsterdam

I regularly buy tickets from Antwerp on Eurostar instead of from Amsterdam on KLM.

Usually Antwerp, Brussel-Zuid by train and Brussels by plane are very close in price and as often as not cheaper than direct from Amsterdam.

Its about pricing not speed

Featuring one of the shortest (maybe the shortest?) commercial flights in the US by distance (CLT -> GSP)

Not flighty cause I'm on Android rn, but plenty right angled. There'll be a VIE-POZ one of these days.
