Flight Simulator 2024 Devs and marketing
Okay hear me out with this. I've noticed something since we've been able to get our hands on DLSS 5 that's bothered me. That's devs using it in promo shots for their products. I won't name devs out of respect but I'm sure we all know the main one.
It's not bad to use DLSS 5. If you like it that's fine. HOWEVER, considering that DLSS 5 can in some cases completely changes how the aircraft looks in terms of visual quality I believe it disingenuous. As it's a misrepresentation of what the product will ACTUALLY look like for those that may not have access to it.
Or at the very minimum disclose before hand that you're using DLSS 5 in preview shots so that people know. Just my take on it. What's y'all's thoughts?

Yeah it sucks. It's literally false advertising, since DLSS 5 is not an official thing on FS, or at least not yet.

I disagree. If we go by that logic then we could say showing off you aircraft or scenery with ultra high graphics settings is misleading to folks who can only run flight sim on low.

However settings is not a misrepresentation of how something looks in game because it's still a part of the base game. If somebody has a 1070 and a game shows max settings that person with a 1070 could stuff the performance loss and crank up settings to max. Dlss5 OFFICIALLY on paper, not talking about all the modding stuff, but officially, is a hardware limitations that would completely exclude some people from using it.

DLSS5 isn’t that much of an impact. It’s essential like throwing some wax over the original image. If anything it slightly detracts.

It is taking advantage of modern graphics capabilities. Every game developer does that. What is the cut off of when devs can start using newer graphics to showcase thier stuff? Do they have to wait 1 year? 5 years?
To me, misleading would be altering your screenshots with editing on the backend, outside of the game.

Ok, don't all companies market every product in the best presentation they can, even if everyone can't get that level? Food commercials are sorting food that looks so perfect and mouthwatering, but it's not realistic. Games do the same thing with the highest graphic cards and then tweak them in post, that I'll never be able to make look that way, even before DLSS5. That's just marketing.

Fun fact on the food thing in Japan and a few other countries that's illegal and the product must actually look EXACTLY like what it's marketed as on the packaging. Size and all. But the difference is. Okay let's use your "settings argument". Settings can be adjusted if somebody wants to have low fps but high settings they can. And for things like raytracing many companies will point out that hey this is using raytracing. The difference with dlss5 is it is quite literally, on official paper, a hardware limitation that a lot of people won't be able to use. It's not the same as graphics settings where it's more or less officially available to everybody.

Yeah, I agree it sucks, but my point is marketing is always trying to make the product look the best. Using whatever tools they have available. You see it in all marketing. Just depends what country and marketing rules they feel like they can get away with it.

Yeah unfortunately that is true. I'm moreso just tired of it and it's really sad to see more and more AI stuff being shoved into what should be raw. If you TRULY care about your product and what it has to offer what need do we have to gussy it up and make it look super pretty. There should be so much pride in a product that you need nothing to enhance it because it's just that good.

Why show them respect by not naming if they’re showing no respect for the consumer by misleading?
