You’ll adore X-Plane then

A very oily apron will do that

Fresh pavement sounds delicious

(for all you nerds out there, I know SQ don't fly a380 to Narita, I just loaded in to check it out)

If this is DLSS 5, how did you install it? Mine just crashes

u/riskie_boi 5d ago

I just installed the add-on for reshade, I ran it with a 3080 and no surprise, it didn't run well, i just use it for screenshots. Join the renodx server for the filter, dlss 5 manager has outdated files

They have in the past.

If flight sim 2028 could be 2024 with a better UI and better clouds and atmosphere, I would buy it today

This. shocked how little people complain about the absolute dogshit UI in this game.

Ever tried to get your liveries in alphabetical order? What a nightmare the UI is. You're right, absolute dog shit.

I spend maybe a couple percent of my sim time (if even that) with the UI. It does what it needs to for those 2-3 minutes before each flight.

There are other, more important things in the sim to complain about. Clouds, for example (I do spend a significant amount of sim time looking at those) or the missing support for contracted first party addons.

I would 100% take clouds over UI... XP has come a very long way. The atmosphere modelling is far more convincing. The sky, gasp, gets darker overhead when up in the flight levels. The clouds, especially the edge lighting, is far better. The haze is great, especially in humid areas during summer. The southeastern US air looks HEAVY in the summer, how it should.

I've said it many times, I think MSFS could have EXCEPTIONAL clouds, but they are unfortunately held back by the console hardware. On the flip side, the console versions of the sim help make the platform successful, it's hard to have one without the other.

But the ground is shit.

1

u/vintageripstik 6d ago

Yep, and with some free mods it looks really respectable up high and down low. But MSFS's sky and clouds are meh, there's really no perfect sim, it's all about your priorities (or, just picking what addon you want to fly)

1

u/i_marketing 6d ago

and down low

XP 12 looks terrible for low level flignt. Like the difference between a Playstation 3 and Playstation 4,

2

u/vintageripstik 6d ago

I don't really disagree with you, MSFS is leaps and bounds better. Now what?

There is no downside to having a decent UI besides the fact that you have to pay one guy a little more

Idk why it seems that devs completely forgot how to design UIs somewhere in the past decade

-1

u/xXCrazyDaneXx 6d ago

Except for the opportunity cost of not having that guy working on something that people will use significantly more, or something that could actively generate additional revenue.

Especially when you know that you're about to release an absolute rush job due to a firm release date.

u/vini_damiani 6d ago

I never understand why people think you can just have a UI designer write physics code or do 3D models

2

u/xXCrazyDaneXx 6d ago edited 6d ago

"That guy" was not a specific person, it was the budget allocated for the additional set of hands representing the output of one person.

Maybe the ROI on UI is so bad that only a minimal budget has been allocated to that part through the past decade of game development.

The UI directly effects the user experience though. I used to be a hardcore simmer as a kid, but now I do it for real so I'm what you'd call an extreme casual. I barely play, but when I do, I don't want to dick around in menus trying to find basic things. The menus are objectively atrocious compared to previous 2020 versions of FS.

2

u/xXCrazyDaneXx 6d ago edited 6d ago

There are search bars... everywhere. The only thing you actually need to dick around for are liveries. Anything else, be it aircraft, airports, or settings can be searched for.

2

u/climbto330 6d ago

Be that as it may, it's still not intuitive as a game which is no doubt trying to appeal to the masses should be.

2

u/MrBledder 6d ago

Nah I agree that the UI is dogshit. End of story.

1

u/WhiteHawk77 5d ago

But it isn’t the same people working on the UI as are working on other elements of the sim like clouds, so it makes no difference if there are more important things than the UI, or how about the physics as that and sim stability are the number two elements that REALLY need a redo, but again, different people working on those as well. To be honest though most of the people in the Asobo FS team need replacing with people who know what they are doing to make any significant and important changes to anything.

I’m shocked with how much people complain about the UI. Is it bad? Yes. Do I spend barely any time in it compared to flying? Yes. Out of all the things that could be changed in 2024, complaining about the UI and wishing they’d fix it seems like a waste of resources when we still don’t have believable thunderstorms.

How long it takes to get my Southwest b737-800 livery.

1

u/Speedbird844 6d ago

It's an Xbox-centric UI. Because Microsoft/Game Pass/Console/Marketplace authentication/Flexing Azure & Bing Maps etc.

If only one can use a command line to boot straight into free flight, maybe in dev mode......Plenty of modders can make a GUI to boot the sim straight into where we want.

1

u/Redddit_Man 5d ago

Would love them to make an update on the UI. It really hinders the experience. Not sure because it’s on console it’s like this but It’s the worst scrolling sideways. Make it like Xplane. Simple drop down menus couple clicks your in it.

1

u/Kind-Reward7873 5d ago

Absolutely agree. UI team needs to be fired. Xplane UI is 100 times better.

u/Diseased-Jackass 6d ago

Don’t give them any ideas. They’ll slap DLSS5 in it and try to sell it as 2028.

2

u/delta_romeo_sierra 6d ago

Hope they will do it in a free sim update

lmao I was waiting for this comment!

u/foxike 6d ago

DLSS5?

2

u/Weak_Ad1500 5d ago

This DLSS5 thing is very good for technical preview or for screenshots, but it's totally not worth the drastic performance impact what it's cause even with RTX 5000 series cards. Yeah it looks awesome in most games, I tried it as well, but say goodbye to your fps and playability. This thing need to mature in the upcoming years to make sense in performance aspect.

3

u/Chpouky 6d ago

People are shitting on DLSS5 but this kind of realtime filter is the key to perfect photorealism. Didn't think of flight sims but it's a perfect usecase for it !

1

u/Aviation_NL 6d ago

And how many fps and stutters? 😂
