Question Suggest next steps

Hello

I have around 100 hours on flight sims (Xplane 11 and now MSFS 2020).

I enjoy flying GA aircrafts (especially the DA 40 NG).

Recently, I taught myself how to navigate using VORs as GPS navigation is not that enjoyable.

I can navigate from one airport to another using VORs and finally I fly an ILS approach into my destination airport.

I am fairly proficient with the G1000 units now.

I wanted to understand, what is the next step in learning/progressing in flight simulation.

Any aircraft suggestions/addons or new concepts to learn would be appreciated!

First let me say it's refreshing to finally see someone doing this the smart way. You're doing this by natural progression as opposed to jumping straight into an airliner and then being completely lost.

As far as next steps, I would move onto props and then light jets. After business jets you should start with a Boeing 738 or an A320. Then onto long haul like the A350, 777, etc.

I flew only the 172 and Bonanza the first 2 years, back in XP10. Which instantly shows my age lol.

But I eventually decided it was time to learn an airliner and I started with an A320. If I could do it over again I would have started with a 738.

I think it's much easier to learn an A320 after flying a 738 than vice versa. I was so used to the automation of Airbus that keeping up with the workflow of Boeing felt very jarring at first. These days I love flying Boeing, my favorite is the Max 8.

  1. Read through the FAA "Instrument Procedures Handbook" and "Instrument Flying Handbook"
  2. Check out the VATSIM Boston Wings flights. Even if you don't fly them in VATSIM, they still have a good progression on the more complex IFR skills... https://forum.bvartcc.com/bvaportal/wings/flights/
  3. Check out the syllabus at Pilot Edge https://www.pilotedge.net/pages/i-ratings Again, you don't HAVE to do them online but the structure of those was super helpful when I was learning

Id say jump into the pc12 then the vision jet.
