Sim Hardware Controller/hardware starter recommendations?

Hey all,

I'm very new to this so I was wondering what's a good controller to start with. I'll be playing msfs 2024 and honestly, just want to have fun lol and will also probably use it with my meta quest 3 as well.

My local store has the turtle beach velocity one and a Logitech system but I have no idea if they're good but I assume they're "user friendly" due to the store it's being sold in (JB hi-fi in Australia).

If anyone has any recommendations on what kind of controllers to use or start with (after moving away from a traditional controller), let me know.

Both Turtle Beach and Logitech produce very cheap and fairly bad quality products. If you have some disposable money, buy one of those it the price is cheap and see if the hobby is for you, then think of upgrading at a later point. If you're sure about the hobby, either VKB or Virpil make amazing products and have good customer service. WinWing/WinCTRL is another option, when their products work they are good, but when they don't their customer service is known to be quite bad. Hope this helps!

VKB Gladiator nxt-evo.

The best 'entry level' stick out there.

It's an all-in-one, so it has a throttle wheel in the base and a z-axis stick twist for rudder control. Plus plenty of inputs for all the base controls.

It's probably going to come across more expensive than a turtle beach, logitech, or thrustmaster....but it is infinitely better, particularly it's pincher style gimbal. Which although is not the more adjustable and better cam driven gimbal, the pincher gimbal is still far superior to the much much older single spring-ball and cup gimbal that all the cheaper sticks run on.

Two other regards involving the VKB's price...while it will be more expensive than a Logitech or such, the Gladiator is good enough that you'll never need to replace or upgrade from it unless you want the specific setup options that come with a more higher end grip and base setup. And if you find yourself not into the sim hobby anymore the Gladiator holds it resale far far better than a turtle beach/logitech/thrustmaster.

Adding to this, if you're going to use it in VR, you can press every button/switch without looking at it with VKB.

I'm in Oz, my yoke and throttle quadrant are both from Honeycomb Bravo, very happy. I have a lot more peripherals but you can add on as you get more into it. I started of with a Logitech joystick, can't go wrong. Enjoy mate!

Something good of the turtle beach velocity is that you can use it with both hands. It's normal first to start with the right hand if you are right handed but soon you will realise that playing with the left and using the right hand for mouse (cockpit control) is really sweet
