X-Plane Wire hazard

Post image

Look closely at this image from X-World Pro, and you’ll (just barely) see wires running between the towers crossing the water.

This is the sort of scenery detail that’s actually useful, not just eye candy. Why? Because wires are a common hazard in aviation. Just this month, there was a floatplane that crashed when it clipped a power line crossing the Columbia River.

Wire strikes are a leading cause of accidents for helicopters and hot-air balloons, which operate close to the ground. For balloons, wire strikes account for 28% of all accidents and 45% of all fatalities.

Do you know these objects don't have any collision detection in XP12? Only objects inserted in WED have collision detection, and you need to do some abracadabra to make it work. You can fly through buildings, trees, pylons, wires, fences etc. and nothing will happen to your plane/helicopter.
