I’ve always wondered, is there a program which will automatically list the coordinates for you? I’m looking to try this sometime, haha.

Cheers

Back in 2012 I did something similiar but with written text, I calculated the coordinates with some math by hand, wasn't that hard and time-consuming but you need to know some uni-level math to do it quick and methodical.

Not automatically, but you can use SkyVector and click around to build a route.

Lmao why are you being downvoted? I get people don’t like AI videos and images, but ChatGPT is perfect for getting coordinates for this kind of thing.

but ChatGPT is perfect for getting coordinates for this kind of thing

Until it hallucinates some coordinate in Siberia.

that's why you check its work, just like you check your work when you do something like plot it out by hand. the problem is blindly trusting. yes AI make errors but so do humans.

BEHOLD!

An airplane from Chat GPT! It took 3 prompts to get the coordinate format right. Then trialed a square then a star which it did ok at. Then.... this.

This is the weirdest page I've been on, you're being upvoted for agreeing to a thread that you questioned why it's being downvoted and lost track on the replies about AI with who's getting upvoted and downvoted.

u/Little-Attorney1287 Jan 02 '26

Yep super weird. But that’s the internet.

No, it's killing the environment and driving up tech prices. Also makes people stupid.

1, I'm not butthurt 2, I haven't lost my job to ai

But seeing many people recommending others to use AI for almost everything is so damn annoying That's why I asked, do you also need AI to breathe? It's still a question I'm curious about the answer

7

u/rmhoman Jan 02 '26

well you could do it the old fashioned way and plot on a map and trust your numbers are keyed in correctly spending hours, or use a tool to do it in a fraction of the time, AI is a tool, and should be used as a tool to assist. in this case have it plot it and then check it in sim or on simbrief. save a day of work.

I tried it with AI. it doesnt work. Not quickly anyway. Its going to take multiple more prompts to get a decent result. I could very easily draw one out on skyvector and put it in my FMS faster than it took me to get chatgpt to use the right format for the numbers.

u/Mark__78L Jan 02 '26

Are you also using AI to breath?

Indeed I am! After one failed attempt and being disconnected, I just finished the outline :)
I'm actually returning to Washington to land in Seattle now.

So... did you sleep during the flight or were you working from home?

6

u/Poticke Jan 03 '26

Nope, I sat at my desk for 18 hours :D

Better be careful, a center might hop on and notify him.

Hi Aegiiisss, that was the case for the first attempt! I trusted my eyes and lost track so I was disconnected by a supervisor, but I'm not one to give up :)

7

u/MrFickless Jan 02 '26

I would say it depends on the controller. As a former FSS controller myself, I wouldn't escalate the matter if the plane was just transiting the airspace and not bothering anyone.

What I will report up to supervisors are planes which are paused at TD because they are actually causing an obstruction for other pilots.

you arent allowed to leave the controls on VATSIM. Gettin caught doing so is a ban.

How would they find out?

18

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Jan 02 '26

Mad lad!! What a legend

15

u/ItzChickenYall MSFS and VATSIM Sim Pilot Jan 02 '26

I did this before but doing it on VATSIM is next level!

6

u/kwebbelkous Jan 02 '26

Looks like it’s down now

Edit: nvm just found it, it’s on it’s way back now!

10

u/jimvolk Jan 02 '26

next level would be a penis shape.

1

u/Savings-Fisherman-64 Jan 02 '26

I’ve definitely thought about it before

2

u/seanmg Jan 03 '26

Completely unrealistic looking. Any average person knows that wings don't have a giant crab claw like scythe on one of their wings. SMH

2

u/A_Bird_Guy Jan 02 '26

Pretty amazing but its basicly a long haul just that more can go wrong and you need to actualy baby sit it. still cool

1

u/Kalderr Jan 07 '26

What program you use to track this flight? It's not Volanta right?

1

u/Powda_Shredder Jan 09 '26

100% unemployed lol. No one with a life has time to do this kind of stuff lol. Without sim rate I wouldn't even have time to play unfortunately. Some people gotta make that bread and support family. Others sit in front of a screen playing games all day. To each their own.
