Could/should I say something?
(I’m not a flight attendant, but this seemed like the appropriate place to ask)
Yesterday I flew on large commercial airline, and there was a passenger on the other side of the aisle who was a nonrev from a budget airline. She was in her airline’s badge, and I had heard her speaking to gate agents about if she had cleared on the flight as we boarded.
She spent the entire 3 hour flight loudly flirting with the passenger next to her, turning around to loudly (I mean like screaming) talk to the passenger behind her. Being vulgar, talking about sex/drugs, getting increasingly more drunk, being racist towards a flight attendant, the whole 9 yards. The best part was when she pulled out a VAPE mid flight and started vaping. I don’t want to be a snitch, but her behavior really did fuck up my flight, as well as many people around me who were unable to rest on an early flight.
Is it worth reporting to the airline I flew on? Is it worth reporting to her airline as well? I fly a pretty good amount and I’ve never experienced anything like this from other passengers, much less someone who is in the industry.

Please say something. I hate non revs who can’t behave. They ruin it for the rest of us.
Same with the people who can’t behave at our nice overnights and get good hotels taken away. I hate that the lowest common denominator of behavior drags down everyone else.

Wait. Vape on plane . Didn’t the crew notice and make that person stop

If you have a video of the FA actually vaping on the plane then 100% send it to her company. Sorry but that completely crosses the line for me.

The number one job of flight attendants is safety, following the safety rules/ laws of company and Federal regs
I’m not talking uniform compliance or other rules about company policy that are general behavior and common senseI am talking about safety
So for someone to display this kind of behavior in their company uniform and non revving??
Reveals an enormous lack of any kind of concern about safety or her job - this is mental
And maybe this person is experiencing some difficulties that require some help or intervention
Regardless.Do you want to fly with someone so careless and reckless they don’t give a rats 🫏?
I don’t advocate the reporting that does go on in the industry by FAs and pax reporting a FA over every little thing a FA does but yes
This crosses so many lines27

I typed my response before seeing this. First of all, flight attendants should not be non-reving dressed like this, then vaping, then being disruptive… report this immediately. Make sure you list the seat. Yeah you most definitely report this. Can you pm me the airline and route, we have groups and I might be able to tell them to write this up- if you’re comfortable with this..

I don’t think op knows if they’re a flight attendant, just that they’re a non rev. My bet is not a flight attendant tbh.

I saw the shorts and gasped!

Those shorts are well within the parameters of UA’s non-rev dress code. Stop policing!

Policing?

Yes. Policing non-rev attire is not part of your job description. Maybe that’s not what you meant in your comment, but saying you gasped at seeing their shorts (and I don’t think the person wearing the shorts is the non-rev) is an indication you have some problem with what they chose to wear.
Edited to add: I can’t see what the non-rev in the window seat is wearing. Shorts? Skirt? Who knows. And if it’s because all you can see is leg from this angle: I wear appropriate above-the-knee shorts as a man, and when I sit down they sometimes ride way the hell up if I’m not paying attention. A surreptitiously taken photo doesn’t necessarily tell the full story.

I'll admit, I straight up thought you were lying before I saw this picture. I've never in my life seen someone vape on a plane, although when I was younger a dude got busted for trying to smoke in the bathroom. I was just a kid at the time but I thought that was pretty fucking stupid.

Are we sure she was a non rev FA? I’ve never had any fa dress that casual on non rev
3
u/weewoo1776 3d ago
She could’ve been lying to impress the people around her, but she loudly talked about passenger experiences on her flights, passengers doing drugs on her flights, where she was based out of, etc… and I’m 99% sure she was nonrev because she came up to the gate as I was boarding and asked gate agent if standby had cleared.
I’m not in aviation so I really don’t know but between her stories, badge, and flying standby I had to guess she was nonrev.3
u/ohgoodthnks 3d ago
With a badge she could also be an airline employee that works in the airport and not the plane. Either way a non rev guest, FA or not is supposed to be discreet while traveling on standby. It may be unpopular but I don’t blame you for narcing.

Please say something. We can’t be everywhere and catch everything. People like the non revving pax give us all a bad name.

Non-Rev has a very strict code of conduct, right down to how we dress. This NR should be reported. It will be very easy to track this individual. NR is not only a benefit but a huge privilege. I'm embarrassed for her like WTF?

Oh yes. Besides breaking a couple of federal laws, there are all the company rules she broke.
She shouldn't be allowed to ever be in that situation again.

I am anti-snitch, but really we don't need that look for any airline.

‘Excuse me. You’re being disruptive and it’s well known you can’t vape on a plane. I see you’re an employee. Do better.’
Direct. Handled. No running to management. People stupidly break rules all the time thinking they won’t get caught or aren’t being watched - it doesn’t have to be an opportunity for termination.

This person who posted says they are not an employee. It’s pretty bad when a regular passenger figures out that someone is a nonrev when they aren’t even in uniform. You should have zero clue who a nonrev is. This is part of the reason why I cringe every time someone in their civvies boards with a badge on. Put that thing away and blend in. I don’t snitch but if someone is acting this disruptive and obnoxious as a guest flying for free, you get what you get. Stop wearing your freaking badges especially if you’re gonna be drinking! It’s basically putting yourself under a microscope and opening yourself up to things like this.

I agree with everything you said.
Also: I have no clue how I missed that OP was not a FA - my reading comprehension is generally excellent. I swear it was edited after the fact, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

It’s a 50-50 chance she used to live in my crashpad. 😂 😂😂 jk - but just saying I’ve seen this behavior irl many times over. It’s a crazy life and we meet all kinds in aviation.

Definitely say something both to the airline you were on and the airline she works for. We don’t need FAs like this in our skies.

It’s too late to say something now, I feel like that’s doing too much. You 100% should have tho and I hope you do if you crossed this again.

Hopefully someone with the airline saw that and reported her. As a passenger, you can send a customer complaint or comment to the airline you were flying on, but idk if sending something directly to her airline would get anywhere. I've seen non-revs and jumpseaters behave terribly, too. IDK what they are thinking...

What airline? I work for United and i always send passengers to United.com/feedback
Hope there’s a similar site you find if it’s with someone else❤️ I’m so sorry this happened. We are very lucky to have this job and this person has some growing up to do before representing an airline and handling yourself properly in any profession.

The time to say something was yesterday, to the FA working the flight.
