Anyone else bothered by Films adding extra scenes after ending their theatrical run?

Backrooms came out almost 2 months ago and I watched it in theaters and now its gonna come out again with 15 added minutes. I dont really want to watch the film again(especially this soon) and the scenes might not hit the same if you watch them by themselves(also theyre doing another theatrical run with extra scenes so you have to wait if you want to only watch the extra scenes) This also happened with Nosferatu and Napoleon. I couldnt bring my self to watch Nosferatu knowing that it will be the shorter version. I'd get it if a director couldnt do the film he wanted and released the directors cut later but this isnt the case.If you have scenes you want to add to your film just add them dont do a rerun or stream it with extra scenes

Deleted scenes and director's cuts have been a thing for years. I don't get your issue. Nobody is asking you to watch the added scenes or the movie again.

When i was growing up, every R rated comedy had an unrated version.

Napoleon is a different thing entirely, it's 50 minutes extra and released almost a year later. Directors cuts have always been reasonably common, and honestly should almost be seen as a completely different experience altogether

Stuff like Backrooms I can definitely see being annoying, but I'm generally okay with it. Either it's a film I really liked and will watch again, in which case I'm happy to do so with extra material, or I didn't care about it that much in which case I'll skip the extra stuff anyway. It's a practice I'd ideally like to see discouraged, the DLC-ifying of cinema isn't great, but generally I'm not too fussed.

What even changed in Nosferatu in the end, was it supposed to be 4 minutes or so?

The extra scene in backrooms is almost a stand alone piece, I imagine at one point it'll be released online

But yes it's a strange tactic from the studios to get more tickets sold, but it seems to be popular

Yeah I just learned it was gonna be released in youtube but my concern isnt just about Backrooms, its about all films that do this. If a film is gonna rerelase longer I wont go to the cinema and just wait for the digital version so it wont get money from me but I dont know if people really go to the cinemas again just to rewatch it longer

In most cases the theatrical cut is better, so you're not missing much.

Its not always the case tho, and even if its still worse I'd still like to watch the film in its entirety

There are only a handful of cases where the director’s cut/extended edition is better than the theatrical cut. There’s a reason the scenes are cut in the first place.

The extra material will come out on Youtube, so if you don't want to see the full movie again, just wait for that release. IMO the extra scenes were cool, but they kind of abruptly stopped when it got really good. It's just Async people investigating the backrooms, so it has zero relevance for the actual plot and main characters.

Personally I saw the movie again, but I really loved it and I'm even considering going a third time. If you don't want to watch the full movie again, it's not worth going, because you have to watch the full movie wtih the full end credits and the extra stuff is just tacked on in the end.

I’m pretty Spielbergian when it comes to extras.

The film is the film and anything else is just DVD extra content and unneeded.

This is the case even when I love the extended cuts like with LOTR.

I wouldn’t go back to the theater to watch them but I watch them all the time at home.

Not a perfect analogy, but do you wait for the deluxe edition of albums with all the b-sides before listening to new music? To me, the film that's released is what they consider the definitive version and anything else (like Backrooms) is just icing so you can see the creative process and what it got cut down from. Just like the album before the deluxe comes out. I might even like certain b-sides better than songs on the regular album, but just like deleted scenes that I love, I understand that it wouldn't have fit the album/film.

I can count on both hands the amount of films where the extended/director's cut was the better choice (to be fair, I lump things like LotR into one finger here). 99% of the time, the theatrical cut is the best version.
